If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,
If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,
When the levee breaks I’ll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Lord, mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Don’t it make you feel bad
When you’re tryin’ to find your way home,
You don’t know which way to go?
If you’re goin’ down south
They go no work to do,
If you don’t know about chicago.
Cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
Now, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
Thinkin’ ’bout me baby and my happy home.
Going, go’n’ to chicago,
Go’n’ to chicago,
Sorry but I can’t take you.
Going down, going down now, going down.

Kinda relevant to the current situation I guess. Enjoy.

Tragically Hip Lyrics

New Orleans Is Sinking Lyrics

Alright!

Bourbon blues on the street, loose and complete
Under skies all smoky blue green
I can't forsake a dixie dead shake
So we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy
What's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man
And I don't wanna swim

Colonel Tom, what's wrong? what's going on?
You can't tie yourself up for a deal
He said, Hey north you're south shut your big mouth,
You gotta do what you feel is real
Ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs
My baby, she don't know me when I'm thinking bout those years

Pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire
Sucking up to someone just to stoke the fire
Picking out the highlights of the scenery
Saw a little cloud that looked a little like me

I had my hands in the river
My feet back up on the banks
Looked up to the lord above
And said, hey man thanks
Sometimes I fell so good, I gotta scream
She said Gordie baby I know exactly what you mean
She said, she said, I swear to god she said

My memory is muddy
What's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don't wanna swim

Swim!

The Tragically Hip's "New Orleans is Sinking" is a staple on Canadian Radio. It was typically played at least three or four times a day but since Katrina, I havn't heard it played once.

Saw them in concert back in 2001, I love those guys, many many great songs. I sang new orlean's is sinking to my husband the past few days because of katrina, he had no idea what I was singing.. but they dont get tragically hip down here.

It's so true that Americans just don't seem to "get" Tragically Hip". Ironically, I am an American living in Canada having moved here from Michigan. Happily, I was familiar with Hip through listening to Canadian radio that streamed across the Detroit River so I was able to really grasp this fantastic group of musicians.

If other Americans havn't heard this band, I heartily reccomend that everyone give this group a listen.

A good new orleans song is by Down.

Phil Anelsmo is the lead singer of this band, mainly known for Pantera.

The Down song is "New Orleans Is A Dying Whore"

Slow but yet full of aggression.

Seeing how the top dogs aren't doing anything this is a good song to listen to.

I was actually going to mention this the other day, but decided not to!
Great tune. Phil is the man.

Just a quick note on "When The Levee Breaks" for audio aficionados:

This song set new standards for drum recordings, and a snare sound in particular. They got the sound when they stuck a couple of mics in a stereo xy configuration at the top of a stairwell on the next floor up, nearly 40 feet away from Bonham's drums!

I've had that tune (Zeppelin) on my mind for three weeks!

Sound advice at any time, though--levees are not dams!
