The speed with which US law enforcers last week tracked down Jeffrey Lee Parson, one of the alleged culprits behind the destructive computer virus MSBlaster, was heralded as a great victory in the battle against computer crime. But an investigation into antivirus software shows that there is no cause for celebration. Antivirus specialists are fighting a losing battle against malicious code like viruses and worms, it concludes.

Ending it is a losing battle.
Combatting it is necessary.
without the virili as much as i hate to admit, there would'nt be much prompting to patch security and upgrade systems.
New software would pass slower.
and IT buisness would drop.
so it's a double edged sword.

Viruses would not exist if Microsoft products where better. If MS mail clients did not allow for code to be executed with administrator rights, and if its software was properly and adequately tested.

Best defence against viruses: UNPLUG!

There's more than Microsoft out there, you can't blame it all on them. Whilst I do agree that their Mail clients aren't particularly secure on their own, it was recently demonstrated that not all virus' are spread by email - mail clients are only half the battle.
