We should be less concerned about international aid in this case though, as unlike many of the regions affected in the tsunami, we in the US actually have considerable resources to assist and rebuild already in our own country.

First, obviously that stage is over.

Second... care to explain? I'm the first to say that the US response to Hurricane Katrina was scandalously slow. But your post doesn't really give anyone any indication of your point of view or what exactly your problem was with the term"assesment stage."

The day of the tsunami there were prayer services all around th world and there was moral support by other countries and yet there hasn't seemed to be much of a reaction to what happened to New Orleans, which is almost just as devastating.

I do not mean for this to be politically baited but if were stengy how come no one is helping us, our nation can provide basic services but cannot rebuild homes, schools and hospitals. Not to mention some assistance rescuing people would be nice because with the man power we have it can take days or weeks to help ever one get to dryer ground.

I cannot not say no ones been lending any help because I'm sure some were along the line there has been some help but were is it who is it and is there any at all?

The rest of the world could hardly care if the US rots. For four days we knew Katrina would come, yet people refused to leave their homes. The lawlessness, violence, and looting is what is crippling New Orleans right now. Besides a little inconvenience, very few people are in danger of dying from starvation or thirst. The only complaint that people can muster is the fact they can't go back to their homes, which by the way has already been obliterated.

The press makes a big deal out of the death toll of over a thousand. You talk about the tsunami in Asia, you know how many people died there? More than a hundred thousand. There is no comparison between the Tsunami and Katrina. They speak of the billions of dollars of property damage. Thats for the insurance companies to handle, but of course they bail out on their own countries in times of need.

Yes, the world DOES care about what's going on here. We care about the people, even if we have problems with the nation.

I'm proud of Paul Martain for forgoing his agenda of talking tough about softwood in favor of talking aid in his resent schedualled talk directly to Bush. Softwood is something that't really got use seeing red up here, but human lives are more important!

Unfortunatly, Bush refused that offer and it's take us some time to practically fight our way into the disaster zone!

On the bright side, these guys showed up yesterday and have already been credited with saving 30+ lives: www.ctv.ca...

Unlike the US, the rest of us seem to be able to put aside agendas when it comes to real tragity.

Not really any commentary here, but thought it would be good to list those countries that are giving aid to the hurricane relief effort.

Dude heaps of countries have offered aid, including some of those worst affected by the Tsunami last year... At first your Wonderful President (oblivious to the extent of the devastation) refused foreign aid... then he realised he might actually nedd help on this one (since he's not doing to great a job himself)...

Even Cuba and Venezuala offered aid by offering doctors and cheap oil to help you cope with the aftermath of disease and rising fuel prices.

Its funny how your media doesnt report these things...
