Ashcroft wants to hang around for another administration...

Very interesting article... notice that Ashcroft (the Hawk) is interested in hanging on for another adminisitration, but Collin Powel (the Dove) was reported to be retiring after this time around, and then very publicly refuted this assertion... sounds a bit engineered, dont you think?

Ashcroft decides against running for political office

WASHINGTON -- Attorney General John Ashcroft says he is ruling out any future campaign for elective office, but he indicates that he would like to continue serving the administration if President Bush is elected to a second term.

In an interview with USA TODAY, Ashcroft, who served as Missouri auditor in 1973 and later was elected state attorney general, governor and U.S. senator, said recently that elective politics have passed him by since his confirmation as the nation's top law enforcement official two years ago.

Great. The only non malicious cabinet member (Powell) wants to leave, but the anti christ himself (Asscroft) wants to hang around?

Actually Collin Powell DOESNT want to leave... the story broke that he would be leaving after the current administration, and then he publicly blasted the media for spreading an "untrue" story: IE, the story is being made that he will leave, although he has no intention of going willingly.

I notice that he hasnt been seen publicly too much since then...

Ah, you noticed that too then? I have been wondering about him. All our chatter and posts about Bush and his merry band of Gestapo and not a single blip about Powell.

What has Powell discovered then? Has he learned too late about how evil that Bush Cartel really is? Though he was a general under the other Bush. Why would he jump on for his sons cabinet?

Has Powell learned something very disturbing, but knows he cant do # about it?

I dont know that Collin ever found anything out so much as he had the brains to know that we were walking into some thing very very bad and was trying to prevent it. Since this seems to fly in the face of Bushes stated or unstated goals, he is no longer an asset...

I hope nothing bad happens to him, be it untimely death or political "scandal". He was not around during 9/11 either, having fallen out of favor with bush, according to rumors, and was sent off to Peru......

Where is he now? Havent seen him in any news.

And Asscroft...........do you know about any secret societal connections with that bastard? What about Rumsfeld and Cheney? Wasnt Cheney a boneman or something similar?

President Bush's Secretary of State Colin Powell wanted to quickly follow up on Clinton's efforts.

But after statements to that effect, Powell was told to back off in almost humiliating fashion. Just as South Korean president Kim Dae-jung's 'sunshine' policy of engagement towards North Korea seemed bluntly dismissed by the new American president when the two met in March in Washington.

Hard-liners

Bush listened to hard-liners like vice president Cheney and Defence minister Rumsfeld, who favoured a more uncompromising attitude towards communist North Korea: similar to what they were used to in their hawkish cold war past.

Lets just see if the radical "policy shift" is followed by behavior change..

Powell has offered to put in writing assurances that the Bush administration does not intend to attack North Korea and have Congress note the assurance.

That implies a congressional resolution, but not the binding agreement with Senate ratification that North Korea appears to be demanding.

The reports suggested Powell's signal of written assurances was opposed by the Pentagon and members of Vice-President Dick Cheney's staff.
