I'm not much of a dreamer really. Most of my dreams are extremely simple- just day to day life where I have some problem of have some great boon.

I had one series of dreams though that I'd love to hear input on if there's anyone who knows a lot about dream interpretation. They were particularly haunting. They were extremely vivid, extremely emotional, and unlike in most dreams, it was very clear that I wasn't myself. It was almost like seeing somebody else's memory.

I was about 13 or 14 at the time, but in the dream I was older, like late teens or early 20s. I was with a girl, she was attractive, long hair, younger than I was in the dream, and she was wearing a very nice dress- almost like a wedding dress, either pink or cream colored. We were in this decaying forest or dry swamp- the ground was black, the threes were almost black and were bare.

We were running from something, I didn't know what exactly at first. We ran for a few seconds in the dream then came to a clearing. We stopped, as if we were lost, and we were caught. The people chasing us were short, grey clad guys with spears, and leading them was this very tall woman in a very thick, big black dress, wielding a double edged battle axe. Her face was very spooky- deathly pale, elongated, with very black eyes- almost hollor looking.

I drew my sword, but didn't make much of a stand- the woman bashed me with the broad side of the axe and I fell, nearly unconscious. I was then held down and had to watch as the little guys began to rape the girl I was with. I managed to break an arm loose and drew a dagger from my boot. Then I did something that is very unlike me- I didn't fight. I slit my own throat. My vision faded to black and I woke up.

I can basically interpret my own dreams for the most part because I don't have complex dreams normally. This one was way over my head though.

What in the heck did the tall woman in the black dress represent?

Why was I older than myself in my dream- in fact why was I completely unlike myself in every way?

Why would I dream about committing suicide?

Who or what did the girl I was with represent?

Why the eerie setting?

Generally I dream about people I know, in places I know, acting in the ways I would normally expect. Dreams about being powerless were not uncommon for me at that time in my life, but this one was highly uncommon- in many ways even entirely unique, in every other aspect.

Most eerily of all, I had this dream four times in the span of one month, then once more several years later, although in the 4th dream none of the other characters were present- just me in that setting, running, stopping at the clearing, and never contronting anybody. I think that part above all others is most perplexing to me.

w0w...

some people have the best dreams...

anyway, in my opinion (i am not expert), the old women could represent a woman that liked you and is now jealous of you and you girl, so she was chasing you around...

but that is just my opinion...

Well, to me it says that when things get tough you bail. You dont like difficult things and when it comes down to it when the going gets tough you run like hell. BUT it also says that you do not like that about yourself. I could be wrong (yea right, like im ever wrong ) but it sounds like a character building dream to me.

R you feeling a bit self concious at the moment? It as if the eyes are watching judgeing you! You maybe older in your dream as you may feel when your older having more life experience you may be more confidant in yourself!

The running away from danger and being lost represents no sence of direction at presant and you are going and going with nothing at the end to aim for. Seek help with career advice and you will find your direction!

Being caught represents frustrations in your life, maybe you feel your presant goals and ideas are out of reach and unrealistic.

Like i say just get some advice and you will be clearer about everything..You are good enough and YES you can do whatever you want. There are always ways around obsticles...keep smiling darling!

I appreciate the responses. Some of the stuff that has been mentioned sounds like it could be close, but some of it doesn't really sound like me.

I was definitely self conscious at the time, and I think I've figured out that it was probably a sexual/romantic dream which makes perfect sense because I was hopelessly smitten by this cheerleader at the time- key world hopeless.
(the girl in pink being taken from me- by little guys with spears no less. What would Freud say? lol)

The backing out thing is very uncharacteristic of me though, especially at that time in my life. Getting picked on by and then punching out somebody bigger and stronger was a near constant theme for me (in reality).

Can anybody figure out why I was in the same setting but completely alone in the 4th and final occurance of the dream?

Mortality
Your shadow self
Powerlessness
Lost youth or a need to protect something that is weak
The unknown

But in truth, no matter what anyone may tell you, your symbols, where they are symbols, are yours alone. There are very few that are in some form of universal consciousness.

i had a dream similar to this there was a very pretty girl pink dress blonde hair but we were in the ruins of this city i belive the ruins were very old but ill interpret ur dream for you

Girls
To see a girl in your dream, represents your playful, innocent, and childlike nature. Perhaps you have been behaving prematurely.

To dream about a girl that you just met, represents your anxieties and thoughts of whether you had made a good impression on her and what she thought of you. If she told you that she disliked you in the dream, then it may be an excuse for you to dismiss her and not pursue a relationship that is beyond friendship.

For a man to dream that he is a girl, signifies that he aspires to be an actor and play female parts

Black
Black symbolizes the unknown, unconscious, danger, mystery, darkness, death, mourning, hate or malice.

If the feeling in the dream is one of joy, blackness could imply hidden spirituality and divine qualities

Woman
To see a woman in your dream, represents nurturance, passivity, caring nature, and love. It refers to your own female aspects or may also represent your mother. Alternatively, it may indicate temptation and guilt. If you know the woman, then it may symbolize the concerns and feelings you have about her.

To see a group of women talking in your dream, refers to some gossip.

To see a pregnant women in your dream, symbolizes abundant wealth.

To see an old woman in your dream, indicates aging and growing old.

Running
To dream that you are running away from someone, indicates an issue that you are trying to avoid. You are not taking or accepting responsibility for your actions. In particular, if you are running from an attacker or any danger, then it suggests that you are not facing and confronting your fears.

To dream that you are trying to run but cannot make your feet move as fast as you want them to, signifies lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. It may also reflect your actual state of REM paralysis while in the dream state.

To dream that you are running alone, signifies that you will advance to a higher position and surpass your friends in the race for wealth. Alternatively, you may be running from some situation or from temptation

To dream that you are running with others, signifies festive and prosperous times

Rape
To dream that you have been raped, suggests a sadistic expression of sexual desire. You may be expressing an unconscious desire to be violated, conquered, or forced into forbidden territory. It also indicates vengeful feelings toward the opposite sex. Alternatively, it suggests that you are feeling violated in some way. Something or someone is jeopardizing your self-esteem and emotional well-being. Dreams of rape are also common for those who were actually raped in their waking life.

To see a rape being committed in your dream, denotes sexual dysfunction or uncertainty

Forest
To dream that you are in or walking through the forest, signifies a transitional phase. You may be following your instincts.

To dream that you are lost in a forest, signifies that you are searching through your unconscious for a better understanding of yourself

Sword
To dream that you are wielding a sword, represents your ambition, competitive nature decisiveness and will power.. You seek to hold a position of prestige, authority, and distinction. Alternatively, the sword can be seen as a phallic symbol and thus represent masculine power

and this might have been a past life

a reply to: The Vagabond

It's been a while since this topic was active, but this is my current search interest so here it goes.

As MaskedAvatar said, your symbols are for you alone and cannot (and should not) be interpreted with any blanketed attempt at definitions of these symbols.

If the dreams were recurring, there was likely an important lesson or message that needed to be learned for you.

For me, I often have dreams where a house represents my soul, but this is not to say every house in my dream represents my soul. The dark, decaying swamp likely represents some aspect of your self/situation. When you went to the clearing and the scenery changed, you felt lost which opened you up to being vulnerable. I don't know what the clearing was like- but the "situation" of the clearing should be thought about. You go from dark, decaying space with bare trees (I read this as empty) into a [fill in the blank] clearing. Peaceful? Haunting? Illuminated? Disorienting?

The other woman you are with could represent your inner female (Jung's anima). The anima in this situation - wearing a wedding dress/ needing help - should be felt and contemplated. Probably all of these figures in the dream represent aspects of your self that needed to be evaluated. Imagine aspects of your self doing these actions and see what resonates and makes sense. What parts of you were doing the chasing and attacking and being victimized. To me, this fits well with the fact these dreams were recurring (i.e. you really needed to hear the message) and then in the fourth you were alone. To me- it's the same message but trying to remove the "confusing" aspects of your interpreting these other figures as apart from yourself.

You did not say if you killed yourself in the end of the fourth dream, but you said they were just the same without confronting anyone. Does this mean you felt the fear while running? You felt lost while in the clearing? How did it "conclude." The fact that you were alone in this fourth dream - if the feelings were different- could mean an effective change you made in yourself and this dream was signifying the "struggle" is no longer there. However, only you can really know.

-Happy wanderings.
