enslaved83 - Underestimated!...I think most people overestimate what China can do, and how (or lack there of) advanced they are.

and there not as advanced as the US is, I would say there still aways behind...like around 20 years. But if they REALLY wanted to out-do Nasa's spacecraft, it wouldn't be to hard. I think its a damn shame that were still using rockets. Or at least use a jet aircraft to get your craft going over 500 mph and 40,000 feet up...thats a big boost.

Yeah but the thing is like I said in my post, a few years back people said that China would never get a man to orbit the Earth and that the Chinese space program wasn't worth jack. Well they did it and proved the nay sayers wrong so why can' they do it again?

An interesting fact about the Chinese is that they are currently churning out more PHD students that the US. True the quality of the US PHDs are beter but that will only improove over time. Yes they have a higher population I know but thats still a lot more PHD's and highly educated people.

People slate the Chinese a lot on these forums. Yet some of their tech is crap. Ive seen some of their military tech and its mostly cheap knock offs but the last thing people should do is underestimate them. Everyday that passes China is becomming more and more powerfull and I believe they have the resources both in money, population, technology and political will to pull off a moon base because at the moment NASA sure as hell doesn't. Heck they couldn't even solve a foam problem given 2 years and millions of $. That is just plain shody and I don't want to hear excuses about how complicated a problem it is to solve because these are the guys that put a man on the moon. The fact that they couldn't solve this problem shows just how far NASA has fallen.

listen...I'm glad your 6th grade teacher has you spellin like a pro, but how about you go do some homework or somethin

You missed the letter "g" at the end of "something"

Seriously, you seem to have a good understanding of what you are talking about, but if you can't spell, then nobody will take you seriously. Just a tip

On subject, i doubt very much China will achieve this on that timescale. I think they would much rather spend the money on infrastructure at the moment, and continue to build their economy, considering the sums involved.

NASA has no intention of upgrading our space vehicles.

Its ridiculous. 2006 and you are telling me we are using 30 year old craft that cant land on a planet (besides earth) and has FOAM on the outside.

It looks more and more like NASA is just a show and or a means to funnel money into another space program.

Actually they do... en.wikipedia.org...

1) It wasn't designed to land on the Moon or anywhere else, it's just an orbiter, nothing more. 2) The shuttle doesn't have foam on the outside. The big rusty orange coloured fuel tank does.

Maybe, or the US Gov't is more concered with spending the money elsewhere (The War). It also doesn't help that NASA seems to be a bit of a beauraucratic mess these days.

The odds are that neither of us are going to get our wish......

2006
- I've never talked to someone from the future before...amazing! ....Sooo, hows life treating ya?

nah, but on a more serious note, Nasa does a LOT more then just think about the Shuttle, people often think "15 BILLION A YEAR...and thats all we have to show for it". But people dont relize how broad Nasa is...I'm sure you know about the hurricane that hit Florida yesterday...you probably were watching the news and saw the huricane from a weather satellite in space...guess who's satellite that is.....Nasa's.

Theres certian relativity rules that apply.
1.If theres a LOT of them, then they will get used longer. (eg: Military Hummers)
or
2.If theres very few of them, they will get used longer. (eg: Space Shuttles)

few yrs ago. a lot of ppl in this forum do NOT believe that china can get ppl orbit the earth in 2003. not surprisingly, a lot of ppl don't believe in (base) this today. it is fine.

NASA used to perform well. BUT what is NASA doing these yrs? they are making shows. launch of the shuttle this yr is just like a joke. they don;t know whether those poor astronauts can come back in one pc or not. anyway, it is not the head of agency who is sitting on the big bomb. they NEVER care about HUMAN RIGHT. what they did is for their own benefit and interesting. the whole story is just like a hollywood movie which sickening me.
do you guys know how many students from china are pursuing their phd in usa or europe? i have a lot of friends doing so. walk around u campus, you will see a lot of chinese.

I would speculate that many Chinese are earning their PHDs here in the U.S., so the Chinese Government probably has many well educated citizens to call on to work on their space program.

Additionally, China is still pretty much a communist state, so what the person 'in charge' wants, that person will usually get, without having to jump through hoops like what would have to happen in the U.S. in order to get a moon base.
