it freezes (it turns all white) when its on the connecting stage...

BTW, i tried uninstalling and re-installing and the same problem occurs...

the new version of AIM works fine on my IBM laptop with windows xp prof...

is there a link i could have for a 5.8 version???

is there a way to fix this annoying problem???

Kinda off topic.... but that stupid browser that came with it annoys me and causes it to boot 5 times slower...... anyone know if i can get rid of it... my sister installed it with aim when it needed to be updated I would've left it out.... but she just clicked everything >.<

Try search google for AIM 5.8 download

go to the setup option and uncheck the box that says something along the lines of "start the AOL browser when AIM starts"...

i hope this helped...

Aim runs on mac?
aim doesn't suck it's fine for instand messenging and it's pretty easy to use. I've never had problems with it.

Nah, too overpriced for many people's tastes. I'll maybe look at Mac when it hits x86...

ANYWAY, you could use a nice, FREE open-source alternative to AIM named "Gaim", which is for GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac. It works very well, except for the file transfer part... that's the only poopy feature on it.

I use it here on Windows and also in whatever distro of GNU/Linux I'm using (Gentoo, Debian, etc.)

Oh yeah... here's the link for it... gaim.sourceforge.net... (oh, and it also supports other protocols like MSN, Yahoo!, Jabber, ICQ, IRC, SILC, Novell GroupWise, Napster, Zephyr, and Gadu-Gadu all at once!)

It may not be AS intuitive, but it makes up for that by being more convienient, less annoying, and not made by AOL.

Pretty soon MACs are going to be just like the PC with Intel Chips dominating and AMD shut out as usuall. If it wasn't for the nerd and geek crowd AMD would have gone out of business along time ago. Oh yeah you can run OSX on AMD platform fyi
Not supported that way but still a nifty hack.

Ontopic

Gaim is excellent use it.

Not the messanger itself, the program. AIM is a terrible program, but the other methods work much better. XChat, Trillian, and Gaim. (I had forgotten about that one, thanks prophetmike )

No problem at all... (where's my applause?
j/k)

I use XChat as well... XChat and Gaim for me
I'd LIKE to use XChat to handle my AIM as well, but I can't get Bitlbee working properly... but Gaim is so darn good, I'm not complaining.

I'm lazy, so I like to try and consolidate
I'd also use the IRC in Gaim... but that's kinda poopy as well... I think XChat is amazing for IRC... outsetting mIRC by FAR... (it's even free, too (except for Windows)... although not officially by the XChat people... this one guy compiles it and makes it available for Windows for FREE! (yes, it's legal) here's his link... silverex.org...)

Enjoy the freebies

I haven't tried the IRC in XChat, but I look forward to it. My current client (ShadowIRC, OS 9) is really fantastic, and I like it a lot because of how bare bones it is, but it does leave a lot to be desired when it comes to functionality. (friends, etc.)
