The new study by US psychologists found that people shown erotic or gory images frequently fail to process images they see immediately afterwards. And the researchers say some personality types appear to be affected more than others by the phenomenon, known as “emotion-induced blindness”.

sorry, didn't read the full article but do they say images afterwards as within 10 seconds for example. i doubt they meant permanent blindness, just temp. due to the previous image being so graphic and prominent anything after it will be a blur for a few secs.

Gory? I bet they couldnt show me an image that would 'emotionally whatever me' In fact, if anyone can show me something (not erotic) that will make me sorry for the person in the pic, and not laugh, I will shut my mouth.

Still pretty wild though, seems like a good reason to get rid of all the sexy billboards on the interstates.

Cripes, I hope I never become as desensitized as you. I'm glad a gory image shocks me. I hope it never stops doing so. I think evrytime you willingly subject yourself to extremely gory images, repeatedly, you die a little more inside. I love gory horror films, but I know they're fake. The real stuff stays in your head (at least it does mine). Once you see something you can't un-see it. It's in there.

I've been staring at porn for years and I I think it has strengthened the eyes. incidentally, who's to say what is deemed erotic?

Good point, I'm sure some people think bra ads are "erotic"

Its not that ive been desensitized, I just cant feel bad about it, no matter how much I try, even if I wanted to. It can be useful though.

Yeh, pretty much, my dad was in hospital after a heart valve op and all the wards I had to walk past to get to his had people with all manner of injuries, limbs missing and the like. I didnt get the slightest bit grossed out. When I went to id my grandfathers body at the morgue, there were some pretty 'gross' sights there as well that I didnt even look twice at.
