Agents -- including the U.S. Coast Guard, Immigrations Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol -- boarded the ship when it reached the Nicholson dock in Detroit at about 8:30 a.m., according to Local 4. Nothing unusual was found during the search, the station reported.
The ship was scheduled to unload steel coils at the Detroit terminal Friday. The crew will continue to unload the shipment -- which is estimated to take about 10 hours -- and then will be free to leave, according to Local 4.
Authorities will continue to investigate why the captain of the ship appeared to have ignored the checkpoints and communication attempts by U.S. and Canadian officials.
