anything the aclu does is just lawyers being lawyers, do anything for the almighty buck.

There's surprisingly little money in pro-bono constitutional law.

that of course depends on what a little money is. to bill gates a little money is a couple of mill. are you saying they are poor lawyers, poor as in no money. the free advertising from some of the higher profile cases for the aclu has to get them some real money makers. even the average public defender is into six figures. my biggest gripe about lawyers is some of the cases that they take where they know they are wrong but twist things to make them seem right. noone will ever convince me that all of the lawyers on the oj simpson defence team thought he was innocent. all they needed to do was give reasonable doubt, which they did at a cost of millions. i just don't understand how they can live with themselves knowing they helped a murderer get away with it. there also had to be some behind the scenes politics involved because if they ever did find oj guilty los angeles would still be burning to this day.

There is no smaller amount of money than none. That's what pro-bono work is, charity. The ACLU is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers seeking to protect the constitution by defending the downtrodden.

www.aclu.org...

The American system of government is founded on two counterbalancing principles: that the majority of the people governs, through democratically elected representatives; and that the power even of a democratic majority must be limited, to ensure individual rights.

Majority power is limited by the Constitution's Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women's suffrage), adopted in 1920.

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.

Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.

Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

We work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental-health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.

None of your anti-lawyer rhetoric about greed or examples of cases from a criminal defense attorney defending OJ to a personal injury attorney suing McDonald's for money apply to the American Civil Liberties Union.

rush limbaugh is downtrodden? i don't buy the non profit agency deal either. the red cross is a non-profit agency whos director makes over $200,000. granted there are probably a few genuine defenders of the constitution but all in all the law profession is not one of the most honorable in the world. if it were stand up comedians would have no more material
