US Authorities Seek Extradition of Marc Emery, the Canadian 'Prince of Pot'

Vancouver police executed a search warrant based on a request from the US on the Vancouver shop 'Toker's Bowl', located next door to the Amsterdam Cafe. The US wants to extradite Emery for distribution of seeds over the internet.

Police raided a business run by a well-known pot activist on Friday based on a search warrant requested by the U.S. government, which wants Marc Emery extradited to face charges related to the sale of marijuana seeds on the Internet and by mail.

Emery, who is also leader of the B.C. Marijuana party, was not at the store when it was raided but U.S. justice officials said he was arrested earlier Friday in Nova Scotia by the RCMP.

Authorization for city police to conduct the raid was given Thursday by Associate Chief Justice Patrick Dohm of the B.C. Supreme Court under the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.

The search warrant sets out a long list of requests made by the United States to the Vancouver police department.

It asks police to seize cash and receipts, client lists and other records identifying purchasers of goods from Emery, and employee records, including applications for employment. It also asks for business and company incorporation documents, leases, rental agreements, computers, hard drives, diskettes and CD-ROMS.

What the heck is going on up here????? Why??? Marc Emery is not a bad man, he's actually a very pleasant, well-spoken, intelligent individual. I met him at a rally years ago.

I find this very disturbing. If I wanted to live in the US, I would move there.

The American are generally silly when it comes to pot, the are simply too many sheeple in one country. That said, Marc is an antagionist, remember when Pot was legal here in Toronto he shows up on the police head office with his buddies(SOME 100+) smoking and taughting the cops with it.

I am all for it being legal and hugely against on giving any Canadian to American cops, let alone for something they seem so ignorant on.

Maybe it is time to start a fire ala 1812?

I am not concerned for Marc Emery. He knew he would be arrested. That is why he is on the podium, he has choosen to be a martyr for marijuana.

He isn't scared, he knew the risks. The people that should be scared are the people located in the US that purchased seeds from Emery's company. I see a lot of "knock and talks" in the near future for everyone on his customer list.

The FBI did this to High Times a long time ago and made them hand over their subscription list.

You are so right that the ones that should be the most concerned are the customers in the US. I'm fairly sure that was the main reason for the search.

I find it disturbing that they even took employment applications. You can be sure that every employee name or person that ever applied there will have their names added to a watch list.

This should be a very interesting case to watch. Probably, in some perverse way, Emery is happy he's in the spotlight again.

From what I read above at least, the USA may not get extradition of Emery.
But Canada may give him a light jail slap unless the Non-Criminal Pot Legislation go's through.

If he should be charged anywhere, it should be here. This is where he operates his business from.

The extradition fight will be a long one, I'm sure. Emery certainly has the funding for it. I think that the US won't let go easily on this one, as they have made such a public spectacle of it.

In the end, I don't think the extradition will stand. But I've been wrong before.....

Actions like this is what get weed banned!!! You should thank him and his buddies for helping Canada re-criminalize weed.
Marc was pretty ignorant for that cops stunt. What was he thinking was going to happen? The government will just let him harass the police officers? Was he stoned or on coke?

Anyway, I think the U.S. is pretty up-tight about weed. Leave the happy stoners along and get a##holes like marc.
