Australian Coma Woman To Have Feeding Tube Removed (moved from ATSNN)

In the wake of the Terry Shiavo controversy, Australian bashing victim Maria Korp will have her feeding tube removed tomorrow which will cause her to die within 14 days. Mrs Korp has been in a coma since February when she was found bashed and locked in a car boot near Melbourne's shrine of rememberance. Her husband and his girlfriend have since been charged over the attempted murder. Mrs Korp is mother to two children and her son is only 11 years old. Authorities have said Mrs Korp will suffer minimal pain and will be kept as comfortable as possible throughout her last days.



This case will begin yet again the controversy over feeding tubes and the right to die. It is sad that this lady has young children who will now grow up without a mother after their fathers indescretion.

Tania Herman, the lover of Maria Korp's husband Joe has been sentenced to 11 years jail for her part in the bashing and the charges are not going to be upgraded to murder when Mrs Korp dies.

There won't be a controversy or at least one anywhere near what happened with the schiavo case. Simply becasue this isn't in Florida. Also because it is in Austrailia and not the US, where the extreme right or left wage an ethics vs morality war.

Euthanasia is legal in Australia isnt it?

That means that if this woman has family members and they consent to this, there will be no uproar about letting her die!

Well at least this won't be blown out of proportion. People have feeding tubes removed almost daily, the Terry Shivo case was just hyped up by the media. Still, I feel sad for all these people who have to live their lives that way, and then die because of it.

Calling the attempted murder of this woman an "indiscretion" is massively understating the husbands actions.

I, too, agree that this issue will not be blown out of proportion as it was with the Schiavo case. Australians are not as given to letting their morals get in the way of other peoples personal tragedies.

From my recollection, only the Northern Territory had legal euthanasia. That was being contested when I was living in Australia so im not too sure whether it still is the case.

Euthanasia is illegal in all states and territories.

We have new laws being passed in the senate regarding discussing suicide, specifically designed to stop Dr Philip Neitske from showing everyone how to make "death pills' and to stop online suicide websites.

The indescretion was not meant about the attempted murder of this lady, it was meant that Joe had an affair with the woman Tania Herman who was charged over the assault

and the debate has already begun and is high on mainstream media agenda.

The Northern Territory of Australia's Legislative Assembly passed the Rights of the Terminally Ill Act (ROTI) on 27.05.95 by one vote.It came into effect on 1st July 1996.Retiring Chief Minister Marshall Perron introduced the legislation as his last Bill before leaving as his mother had died a lingering,horrible death from cancer and he wanted to spare others if they so desired.
Four people were assisted to die by Dr Phillip Nitschke,the only physician inclined to help as the AMA launched a huge scare campaign against the Act.
As a Territory,any NT legislation can be overturned by the Commonwealth government,and a Private Members Bill,initiated by a pro-life conservative member of the incoming John Howard government,euthanised the ROTI Act in March 1997.

I knew it had been overturned but couldn't remember the exact circumstances. I read recently a write up by Dr Phil regarding the new legislation deisigned to stop him from giving out the instructions of his death pill and how to do it.

Federal gov used Weise and minnesota and stuff like that to put in place the legislation to stop the online suicide discussions.

It has just been reported on Aus' tv, that Joe Korp has committed suicide. Following the death of his wife, Maria, he was facing a potential murder charge.

Police confirmed that they found his body at the Korp family property.

Alleged wife killer found dead.

JOE KORP, the man accused of killing his wife Maria, has been found dead in Melbourne.

Mr Korp's lawyer Peter Ward told AAP his client had "passed away yesterday".
An ambulance attended Mr Korp's Mickleham house in outer Melbourne at about 10.15pm last night.

His death came just hours after his wife Maria was cremated yesterday.

Mrs Korp, 50, was found choked and left for dead at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance on February 13, four days after she disappeared from her Mickleham home.

She died on August 5 after being in a vegetative state in The Alfred hospital for nearly six months.
