Lot's of color but is it too much?

so im trying to create a euroopean feel but it's not working. Here's a picture, we're putting a new round table in, so we dont have one right now.
But check the wall color, the paintings, shelving, curtains, and the rods (french inspired feur de lis) we're having a disagreement about it, he thinks it's too much, I don't know now, I wanted to have 3-4 different colors incorporated into that room so the chairs would have some brothers of the same color, but he says that would be crazy/busy.

is it too much, or am I on the right track? i don't want to make it drab, the point is to energize the room.

I think the green might be too bright, I could go a shade darker, and also he's thinks the red curtains shouldn't be because it blends in with the wall.

I have 3 other walls that are green that you can't see in that photo, that room is larger then it looks, and the green is hogging all the attention away from the red wall. the red wall was supposed to be the focal point, but now the red and green seem to be fighting eachother for it.

I like all the different colors, looks great, but I have one questions thats been bugging me. How come those four chairs are watching the plant? lol Maybe it will grow faster? Although the whole "European look" is really more plain then you think. Unless they live in a mansion with designer styling... In Europe the walls are usually white or other light color. The furniture is build more for function then form. Everything is "just the basics" nothing extravagant. I lived in Europe, I dont think you would like it much...

lol... I chucked our table because it was too big, we are getting a smaller round frosted glass table this weekend, thats just there to see how it would look. to get an idea lol... I thought the european look was colorful, I know is some parts of that area, they paint the outside of their homes really funky colours. I'm not done in that room, I just brought in a few things that I would would go with the colors, I don't know which accessories to place in there yet, hopefully when i'm done i'll know for sure.

we might even paint all the walls that red colors and have white trim, then just accessorize the room with that color green.

first thing I noticed was some of the wood work in the moulding not being painted with, the door frames. I think they also need to be white to match the room, but I'm sure one of you is against the idea. It is gorgeous wood, but if you want a bright room like that, I don't think it works, with a different color palette the wood would look good, but with this vibrant one, you need white, especially with all the white that breaks up the floor. You could leave and just live with it, if you really don't want to touch the wood, don't.

I don't like the red curtains either , how about bringing in that dusty blue as the curtain color. I think it will help play up the blue in your artwork. But instead of panels, do a scarf, show off that beautiful curtain rod with a nice knot on one side, let the other side loosely drape.

your burgundy door mat doesn't match the room. either the blue or green color would be nice.

The green chair and wall color looks great.

The red wall the perfect shade of red.

I don't think the room is too busy at all, as long as you can keep it clutter free (god I wish I can do that) then it works. Don't bring too much accessories into the room. a few montages here and there, scattered around the room, kind of like what you did with the artwork and you got your look

I like the dusty blue panel idea! What exactly is a panel? is that just a scarf draped across the top? should I leave the white sheers in and chuck the red curtains?

I just bought that rug at home depot cuz i thought it would go with the wall, what else can i use to bring the red wall color into the room?

I have a kick ass blue lamp that is on my wet bar which you can't see from that angle but I was thinking it could stay there so you get kind of an ambiance when you walk into the dining room. But I didn't know if I should play out blue...

But I do like the panel idea, I could get a blue rug too? Your going to have to help me out with that cuz i dont really understand.

And trim has been agreed upon to be painted white. We are getting crown moulding up tomorrow and we're painting that white.

this is what I see in my head, but with your blue color of course. You can go two way, different shades of blue, and play up the blue accents around the room, including the lamp in the dining room.....or white and blue with the blue just being the scarf.

I took these nantucket curtains from my laundry room just to see what white would look like, if I was to do a dusty blue scarf thing like the pic above would that look cool?

I'll show you the lamp I have, below. Also note all the green on the other side of the room. We were debating if it was too much and taking the attention away from the accent wall (red).



the light is going to be maybe put in this area, or should it be kind of beside the table, like they have in restaurants?

That vase thing with the sticks is no longer there, I was wondering if that wouldw ork in there but i'm not sure about that either..

decisions, decisions... I do like that drape Idea... very elegant...

K I took this green scarf from my bedroom window, could you turn it into a dusty blue to see what it would look like?

kind of like the color of that blue chair?

TL, I don't know about you but I get bored, I have a summer, fall, winter and spring look for my house. I usually just change out accessories and the drapes and i'm done. But instead of complicating and going for 4 seasons worth of looks, you can do summer and winter.

I love the look of all white drapes, for summer. and add the blue scarf for winter. I think you got your look right there, plus you already have the white curtains, you only need the scarf now.

notice KL's pic, you're missing something on top, that's why the scarf which will run on the top too, would look nice instead of having the blue at the sides only.

I think the light in that bar area would be nice, ties the whole room together. The vase/urn thing would probably look good on the floor near your pics, since some of the colors in the pics sort of match the vase. I think I would have to see it in place though to be sure.

TL, you know what, I think the other white sheers you had on before might be better, if you go with a heavier type material for the scarf.

If you use a light sheer material for the scarf, use these white tab top ones you have hanging now.

Ok this is as close as I can get to the color of the chair. At least it looks that way viewed on my monitor with it's color settings.

See how the stripes in the sheer are lighter, i was hoping originally they could of been red and white, but I couldn't find any.. so i settled for those.

and yes they need to be steamed

well, the room got a new coat of primer today, looks like the whole room is going to be that red... white trim and crown molding.

i'll take pictures so yall can see the outcome... im kind of sad to see the green go... so long booger walls.
