Has anyone looked at the Mt. St. Helen website today -- it looks like steam coming from the lower left side. Have you noticed this before or is it new? I check it pretty much daily and this is the first time I have seen this. If you go into the archives for the past couple of hours there are a couple of shots that show it better.

The webmaster is on leave until Tuesday the 19th so I don't know if we will see anything new on the Crater, Dome image page until after that -- although they did instruct someone on how to put images in on a different page -- I will check that from time to time to see if anything shows up there.

I wonder if we will see any growth where this is like on the dome?

Okay, the last two pics are showing she's spewing smoke out of the top and the lower left side - almost like a ring around a caldera.

She may be about to bust a move!

I noticed that earlier too -- I wonder if it is the same vent just coming out of different places or if it is different vents -- not that either sounds like a good thing to me -- the alert level is still at level 2 - maybe that is something to keep an eye on also?

Yeah the frequency is picking back up and there have been some ELP (extra long period) events today indicative of magmatic encroachment.

But another thing - is it just me or does the new dome look a LOT taller than say this morning???

Val when you say new dome are you meaning the old new dome or the one on the side we are talking about today? Actually the old new dome on top looks to me like the front is higher and the new new one on the side looks higher to me -- but I am never sure how much difference is by the sun changing and also today the venting was making it difficult to see.
