Actually, the Bush administration has a rather clever means of silencing detractors... Don't invite them to events...and surround him only with those who support him.... Simple, but scary....

As for this instance...sounds like they are worried more about getting New York Times' troubles, and more about HOW the docs were obtained...before going forward. Can't say I blame them, but yep, it's a scary thing alright...

*listens for the goose steps....*

I watch the mainstream media to find out what my government WANTS me to think.

Once upon a time... there was a dream called "freedom of speech"
Once upon a time... they called journalists "the 4th power"
Once upon a time... there may have been governments you could trust
Once upon a time... "National Security" meant "Protecting our people"

Seems like those are fairytales from the dark ages, or do WE live in the dark ages now?

I don't know if silecing the media is entirly accurate. Manipulating the media, not thats more accurate. Granted, differant political groups are able to manipulate more than others at any given time but I doubt anyone really thinks that the media is not a tool of those in power. It always has been and always will be.

Though with the recent creation of the internet international media is more avalible and thus easer for a person to week out the BS and get an idea of a clearer truth.

Sadly, as it was so beautifuly said by Tommy Lee Jones.

"A person is intelligent, but people are stupid."

i believe we here in america do not get much real news at all. lets see china threaten us about a week ago to go to war with us if we get involve and all the news can talk about was the aruba girl who is missing. just a bunch of junk news rather than real news. the only reason i found out about that china thing was cause it was here on the ats. cnn did not talk about it neither did fox. so yes our news is censored.

Seems to me they have been doing just that under an invisible envelope, eg: your Network reported on this taboo so, President Bush won't call your name out for a question during a news conference...

Even the subtle ways of closing down a Network will happen, especially if the word UFOs comes up to a question to the President, a subject by the way, which he said he would answer to after he was elected to his first term.
