BEIJING - China, which does not recognize the Vatican, has arrested an underground Roman Catholic bishop, a U.S.-based religious rights group said, quashing hopes of any sudden rapprochement between Beijing and the Holy See.

Hmmm...I wonder if this is the "secret Cardinal" JPII named shortly before his death. Most thought he was Chinese.
