This article concerns the creeping draft and a movement to stop it dead in its tracks. I highly recommend it.

The Creeping Draft
By Marjorie Cohn
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Friday 01 July 2005

A young man in the Delayed Entry Program changed his mind about enlisting. The recruiter said to him that September 11 changed everything - "If you don't report, that's treason and you will be shot." I helped him to obtain a discharge.
-- Bill Galvin, Counseling Coordinator, Center on Conscience and War
Like the recruiter trying to get the youth to enlist in the military, George Bush invoked the September 11 terrorist attacks in his June 28 speech - six times. Bush ended his address with a recruiting pitch: "I thank those of you who have re-enlisted in an hour when your country needs you. And to those watching tonight who are considering a military career, there is no higher calling than service in our armed forces."

My son confessed to me last week that he has been hanging around with recruiters.

I already have him ready and enrolled to start college in the fall.

I asked him why he was doing that,

He told me that every time he goes to the mall they are always there

So I asked him what he was doing about it

He said that he was getting a lot of free meals.

I told him I was going to kick his butt.

He, he, I tell you ECK I will kick his butt, but I love him to much, actually he said that the recruiters are in the mall at night fishing for the young men and women, because is summer and they are hanging around in there everyday.

After all we live in GA in a small town is nothing else to do for young teens but the mall, I rather have him in there than doing something else.

That's funny. In AIT, the only things to do were to go to the PX and church to get away from it all. Sounds familiar.

What branch is he interested in? Is it because of his dad? ( I mean, is it b/c he admires what his dad has done?)

My son is not interested in joining at least that's what he said, but actually he was talking a couple of month ago about the Air force.

But thankfully that is over with.

I hope for your sake, that he choses to pursue another path.
