Faces On The Floor - Belmez, Spain

I don't know if this has been covered before, but I remember reading about this in a book when I was younger - It freaked me out then and it freaks me out now.
The jist of the story is that in 1971, faces began appearing upon the floor of a house in Belmez de la Moraleda, Spain.

On 23 August 1971, at number 5 Rodriguez Acosta (now 5 Real Street) the Pereira family was about to experience a strange manifestation in their home. Maria Gomez Pereira spied a strange formation on the hearth of her kitchen. A spot that evolved with each passing day until finally the face of a person appeared before her.

The occupants of the house tried to remove the flooring, but the face reappeared! Heres a picture of the face -



The floor of the kitchen was next excavated and many bones were recovered...

Shortly after, many different faces appeared on the floor, male and female, their expressions changing and growing in intensity. Vigorous scrubbing would not erase the images nor would the faces leave despite Miguel's attempts to destroy them with his pickaxe.

In an attempt to debunk the story, 'experts' were called in -

Kodak and the parapsychological laboratory at Freiburg University carried out careful analysis of the experimentation photographs, which showed the photographs to be authentic. Photographic manifestations included the apparitions of hands and claws in photographs.

Sound recordings were also taken -

German de Argumosa had also taken electronic voice phenomenon (evp) samples at the Pereira home with startling results. Human cries and moans could be heard on the recordings and include messages stating:
She goes with all the men"
"Hell begins here"
"German, scratches, patio, raises cement"
"I continue buried"

One theory regarding this series of events postulated that the female head of the household had some sort of parapsychological influence upon the manifestations. Investigators were eager to see if the faces still appeared after her death -

Shortly after Maria's passing the Sociedad Española de Investigaciones Parapsicológica carried out an extensive examination of the famous floor and confirmed that the faces continued its evolution with each passing day.

And for any of you who wish to visit, the house, and the faces, still stand -

The house and its mysterious kitchen floor had survived the blitz of curious onlookers, scientists, paranormal enthusiasts and investigators over the past 3 decades, leaving experts in the field no closer to the truth than they were 33 years ago.
On July 2004, the house with its evolving faces was placed on the market. Its future and its owner are not yet known.
The house remains a living testimony that there are some things on this earth that continue to elude scientific explanation.

I believe this case is a proof concerning how reality is an extension of our consciousness and that if you look into DETAILS, you will see.

i was also fascinated with this when i was younger, but have come to realise that what ever you look at, looks like a face. Whether it be leaves in a tree, or grain in a peice of wood, our brain always tell us its a face!!

I think there is more than just random symmetry at work here, we are all just not "convincing" ourselves that it looks like a face, i mean come on dude, its a freakin' face.

In that specific instance it is pretty clearly a face. There are lots of ways it could have gotten there, but I will admit that is a bit creepy.

I wonder how many other sources for this story there is? You know..cross checking the sources and all is a good way to determine the recorded facts.

there is a flash movie about this that goes into more details. I believe its called urban legends fact or fiction. You vote on weither or not you believe the story. The craziest part of the faces is that when they tear the floor up and completely recement it and seal the place off, the faces pop right up again. That and they move. They aren't always in the same place.

I live in Spain and i tell you in the magazines of the paranormal the faces of Belmez are done to death.
The owner of the house died a short while ago and everyones waiting for her to appear.

The faces are identified to a family who lived in the house durng the civil war here in Spain and were killed.
The family photo shows all the family together and i have to say they do bear a startling resembelance to the faces on the floor...

Wouldn't it be even more weird if Maria's face appeared on the floor. I really hope that happens.

I've flown to Reus airport before, when we went to Salou.

I think its just a freaky looking staining or something on the floor. OUr minds get us to recognise things as faces. Thats a psychological fact. Thats why we see stuff like the devils face in smoke coming from the WTC. Sometimes we see objects as people. Who knows what the reason for it is but Im pretty sure there are no ghostly things going on here.

soapy go watch the JKcinema video. You'll change your mind. scientists ripped the floor up and recemented it, sealed the whole house for three months. When they went back into the house not only did the faces remain but they had evolved and moved to different places. They even took a samlpe of the cement and did a trace for dye and paints . Both test were negative.

This is one of those cases that just prove the paranormal, not ghosts or spirits or hell or demons or etc etc.. Just a case that proves current science does not prove all.

Archaeologists have established that the cottage was built over an ancient cemetery, I beleive this may have something to do with it. I do think there is more to it than our "brains telling us everything looks like a face" !!!!!
