it's funny how the only people who think the media are 'left' and 'liberal' are the right-wing nutjobs like Hannity, O'reilly, Rush Limbaugh and the thousands of other conservative hosts that dominate talk radio and political talk shows.

CNN, NBC and CBS are not liberal or 'democrat' just because they aren't supporters of the republicans and the bush administration like Fox is. As an outsider i consider these channels to be centrist at best. I don't think your ever going to find many liberals call CNN or NBC 'liberal' news channels.

Down with the corporate media

I also find it unnerving the 'cult of nationalism' America seems to have compared to the rest of the world. As an Australian, in my country there nobody ever calls anyone 'anti-australian' over a differing viewpoint or never in my life have I ever anyone call themselves a:

"Diehard American" (for me it would be Australian)

or

"pro american" (for me it would be Australian)

To be honest i've never heard of anyone in Australia question a persons fondness of Australia over anything.

I also have never seen in Australia or any other country anyone believe that the media is 'Anti-Australian' or 'Anti-(insert country here)'

Why in America?

you dont know the answer to that one?? Good Grief.

America is piviotal in maintaining the ideology that has survived in this world since WW1. Anglo Saxon superiority and rule of the World"

Prior to WW1 this position was occupied by France. The other major player in this ideology is England. America has become the boot lackey for this ideology replacing France.

In short..the struggle in support for this Ideology is the hearts and minds of the American people. The avenue for breaking this ideology is in the minds/souls of the American people. To do so you must steer them with a left/ right dichomoty. This is the struggle in the news and education system. To properly groom the American sucker from both the left and the right and steer the American into the international stage.
Dont worry Dr Funk..Austraulia is movnig up in this stage especially with events taking place in the orient. Austraulia is hence becoming a more important place and will soon enough become under this kind of assault for the Down under mind/soul.
Education systems when they are young...to keep them on the emotional tredmill. News and information formats 24/7 to keep the unthinking more on the emotional tredmill. And then also influence in some churchs if they ever get off the tredmills to bring them back.
Did they not call this in some arenas "Hegelian dialectric" Thesis/antithesis/synthesis???? A technique for steering the unawares.

Just something for your thoughts.

Thanks,
Orangetom

one of the clear fingerprints of left dichomoty..is the "victimization " technique. This one here in America has become very popular as of the last twenty years or so with the advent of the afternoon talk show format. Talk shows like Oprah, Rikki, Phil Donohue et al..survived for years and years on the "victimization format" until it became to blatant and circus like. Politics like the whores that they are soon picked up on this technique.
Within politics this takes the form of identifying the latest "victims" and offering them the solution by voting for this party and its platform.
This is a sure way to control unthinking people by emotional jerkoff techniques. It gaurantees that they will be pretty much controllable ...especially in a voting booth to help the party keep its power base and its people in office. This has become highly offensive to people who see it for what it is..people who work hard for a living and dont get entitlements or free passes based on "victim " status.

On the other side of the dichomoty...the right...this victimization is exposed for what it is. but further down the road this outrage itself is channeled to the political partys in like manner for votes. Same fingerprint.
Often right wing...outrages are channeled to projects like terrorism and then down the road a bit they are hijacked to other projects..where the real intent was all along. Like Iraq. It is just another way of fleecing the public. It is just not as obvious as the olde "victimization". It is,however, still keeping the public unawares of the string they are on.

Hence the struggle for the hearts and souls of the voting public. Most of politics is just a form of whoredom. It is buying and selling the souls of people..and hence nations. News media, Education, and even religion are pawns in this whoredom.

It is up to the individual to wise themselves up to this trend. You will get no help from the what passes for normal in this world.

Thanks,
Orangetom

That means your angry emoticon anti-American newspaper rabble rousing puts you in the radical fringe minority against the grain of most Americans. Congrats on that.

Yeah! Lousey minority...

Ohhhhhh yes it was! The media did exactly what Rant was talking about with the Clinton scandal:

Rant's
Your conclusions are in step with most of this administration's "intelligence." Misreading available data, manipulating it, then regurgitating garbage as misdirection.

The media misread the data and manipulated it. Just from watching the news, the entire impeachment scandal was based on sex, Clinton was impeached for sex. That was complete misdirection, he was impeached for purjury, for willingly violating the law he swore to protect in an act of self interest. There were many other charges leveled, far more nefarious than purjury (which is huge), but the media's spin on it caused the wuss Republican leadership to base their case on what the media said their case was, not what Ken Starr and Dave Schippers said it was.

I agree with you, looking4truth, it's not nearly as prevelant as it seems, but it is there. As WebDevil pointed out, a lot of conservatives have been labeling anti-administration rhetoric as anti-American.

Finally, I'm also going to have to agree with orangetom1999's cynicism to a degree. I believe most investigative journalists are looking for the truth, not a political stand. However, money makes the news. The editors decide which of those articles go into the media. We all know doom and gloom sells on the news, and by publishing/reporting investigations critical of America for something while not doing so with those flattering of her nearly so much, they create the doom and gloom that causes people to watch. The stories are investigated fairly and reported on, generally. Journalists aren't in question here, the editors and decision makers are. I believe a typical editor, when presented with two articles, one talking about the efforts America is going to to cater to the religious needs of the prisoners in Gitmo, the other possible abuses committed at the same institution, they're going to run with the abuses, and nix the other article. That's where I see the bias. That, and sometimes how the anchors deliver the reports, which facts aren't important enough to get air time, who gets quoted and how, etc.

Nope, they won't. I have an aunt who was completely shocked when I told her moveon.org was biased. She explained to me in a very patient manner (read: condescending) that they were completely fair and balanced, unlike the right wing MSM. Talk to many conservatives, and they don't see the bias on FoxNews. Unless you're looking for it, human tendancy is to not see bias when it is in step with what we believe.

I will say that, of all the major cable news networks out there, I've found CNN Headline News to be the least biased and most closely focused on the center; on reporting facts without opinion.

Just one quick example of left-bias in CNN was during the third presidential debate in 2004. I was flipping through the three biggies, MSNBC, FoxNews, and CNN, to see how they would cover things differently.
I actually have about 5 pages of notes written finding bias in both CNN and FoxNews (I didn't follow MSNBC too much because I'd have to hit 3 buttons instead of just "Last"
) The one example I was going to use is every time CNN would be interviewing someone, pre-debate and post-debate, from Kerry's side, there were Kerry signs waving all over in the background. Anyone on Bushes side was either very close, keeping the people in the background out of the shot, in studio, or with in a completely different location. The only Bush sign I ever saw on CNN was one person who was in the Kerry crowd holding a Bush sign. I dunno, seems very unlikely to me that that could have happened just by chance. However, it probably wasn't the reporter's choice where the interview took place, it was the program director/editor/whatever that position's called.

Wow! Someone got it besides me. And explained it better than me.

Thanks Jake.

Perhapsed I should take this a step further though it is likely to generate alot of flack. But then ...I have been taught to get alot of flack for my beliefs and we are expressing our beliefs about media.

When I watch the media and its approach to delivering the news. I notice the liberal/left side...or slant ..then the right/so called conservative side.

There is however another side to me in how I view the news..though not always successfully. And this is God's view. I find that both left and right do not always use Gods view in issues. This is very telling to me.
I have come to realize that in fact the right is not always conservative as they claim.
I have come to understand that there is a left viewpoint and a right viewpoint ...and then there is God's viewpoint which is conservative. Not necessarily what the right or left claim. If this makes me a nut..so be it.

This is why to me watching what passes for news in American and sometimes around the world is like watching wildlife in its natural habitat. I'm just not that intrested. I can get wildlife at work and get paid for it on the clock. I dont need this wildlife trying to pass itself off as news ..bombarding me ..with emotional drivel.

Thanks,
Orangetom

Anti-corruption, anti-criminality in government = "anti-Bush" = pro-American.

Pro-Bush = anti-American.

Exactly. Compared with European media, American media is very right wing, by the way.... Both are controlled by the political elite, though.

Democrates and republicans are just two sides of the same coin. They just represent different ideas within the same context. Both just represent the same people of the elite (corporate, banking and political). The US government has ceased to represent the people the moment JFK was shot by assassins hired by some government agency.

There really is much more to politics than just democrates and republicans.....

I don't know anyone who hates America. I don't know anyone who likes your government either. Don't confuse the two..... The American government and the American people are not the same...... And it's been a long time ago since your government actually represented the American people.

Think about the following phrases. I'm sure your founding fathers would have wholeheartedly agreed with those.

- A true patriot must always protect the people against its government

- When a government ceases to represent the people, it becomes patriotic to opose that government.

Another foreigner who doesn't understand that the U.S. government you hate was elected by the U.S. people you claim to like - because they thought at the time that it was the better choice. Doesn't mean some haven't changed their minds since the election. If enough have, the results will be different next time.

Another way of looking at the question. France's Chirac is obviously a buffoon, considering his recent actions that even make Bush start to look good. When you see him speak, he looks as if he's addressing a gathering of retards and trying to get his point across. Perhaps Chirac is arrogant enough to think just that when he's speaking with anyone else in France or elsewhere. Seems like he's getting a media pass (except maybe in Britain), though. So, should Americans (and others) just dislike the French government, or also include the French people that keep electing and supporting ????? like Chirac?

There, I 'sanitized' my post a little so as not to offend you or anyone else - this time.

Now, let's hear you and others speak out against the people who bash George Bush with far worse rhetoric than calling him an idiot.

If you don't want to play 'fair' on this, then the gloves are off with respect to Chirac and anyone else that, in my opinion, doesn't deserve to be where he is.

centurion1211, are you in a wrong thread? Why are you talking about France and Chirac?

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with France... I am confused...

Anyways, what the media is supposed to do is deliver facts to people. Now, if the goverment screws up so badly that there is nothing good to report on, that is not the media's fault. It is not their job to be "kind to president", or "favorable to current administration".
So, that is how it is supposed to be if it weren't for owners of the media influencing which news exactly are to be reported in what way, by whom, how, when and so on. Instead of facts making the news we got corporate policy making the news.
This way you get to see one thing on FOX, and something else on CNN or NBC. Reality is relative in the world of news reporting these days.

i have done so elsewhere. after a great deal of anger, i managed to calm myself down and ask the foreigners nicely to respect my government and keep their rude comments to themsleves. in exchange, i promised to help keep disrespect of all nations and their governments off these boards. and i thank you for cleaning up your original post.
