91 year-old bank robber

ABILENE, Texas - Authorities say convicted bank robber J.L. Hunter "Red'' Rountree isn't letting old age stand in his way. The 91-year-old Texas man is back behind bars, accused of robbing his third bank in five years.

Police say Rountree walked into a branch of First American Bank in Abilene about 10 a.m. Tuesday, demanded money from a teller and passed over a large envelope with "ROBBERY'' written on it.

I guess the guy figures he doesn't have much to lose, but it looks like he'll spend the rest of life in jail, however long that may be. He also robbed banks in Mississippi receiving probation and Florida where he got 3 years prison time, becoming the oldest inmate in the state.

How can you put elderly people in prison? It concerns me that if you put them in prison, they are going to be amongst Serial Killers and Rapists. Not that I think the crime should go unpunished, but what they really need to be placed in to a specialist 'prison' or put them into care.

At least this guy wasn't too harshly punished.

It is unlikely that this criminal would be considered of the sort of murderers and serial killers. I'm sure he will not be sent off into a max prison. They don't put all criminals in the same jail you know.

In all honesty he probably did it because he couldn't afford your rediculous American health care system. Free Health Care in jail! He was thinking of his future when he did it, that's for sure!

But I take your point. We've had cases of 70 year olds that have been imprisoned on Manslaughter charges. It just concerns me, rough times they might recieve. It said in the Article he'd only got 10 years probabtion so it really isn't that harsh.

Well, doubt the guy knew what he was up to. He 91 years old, should be put in a old persons place.

He should not be put in an old persons place,he should have help from family in his later years,think about yourself going to one of those places someday,or had that though never crossed your mind?.
I understand the possibility that he may have no children,grandchildren or relatives to care for him,the point is that this is just another example of things are not working,national health care?,how about telling the government to FK off,and freeing yourself from all of those contractual obligations in the process.
The more you demand from your government the , more helpless you become and the more powerful it becomes.
I would rather die at a younger age than live a long life as a slave.

I'm not condoning what he did, but he knew what he was doing. He handed the teller a note saying "ROBBERY", and just did 3 years in prison for the same offense. He knew what he was doing. They should put him in a home with some security and let him finish his days there. Three holdups in 5 years, let him go and he'll do it again. If he's not right mentally then he needs to be in a home of some sort and be looked after.

I say what the hell. If you're 91 and you've got the balls to go into a bank and with your dentures falling out say " gimme all your money ", we should up his meds and send him on his way.
