Change in the FBI

John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, will help the FBI choose its new intelligence director. This marks the first time that someone outside of the bureau would play a part in the selection process of a high ranking FBI official. The article references pressure from the White House on the FBI. Who ever is chosen as Intelligence Chief (with Mr. Negroponte's recommendation) would be in a very powerful position. I would like other member's thoughts as to what the underlying reasons for this may be.

Republican controlled Washington = tired ideology + corruption = totally resistable

The FBI is a bureaucracy. In the current environment very very little will change, except budgets will go up, corporations will use accounting tricks to move more profits to the taxfree cayman islands and then to pay for the corporate wish list of government YOU will pay more taxes and eat their pollution.

While I don't totally disagree with anything you just posted, the fact remains that this is still a new way of doing things in the FBI. What I am wondering is what do you think is behind the change? Do you think that the "Republican controlled Washington" is forcing the use of a different means of appointment to the FBI for its own personal gain somehow?

Rather than accepting a change in the law, Negroponte compromised with Hunter and promised to meet with him personally before shifting Defense Department employees. Negroponte's office has called his meeting with the chairman "very satisfactory."
