Yeah, yeah, understand where you all coming from. Sorry could not put more info last night, as i was dam tired. But thanks for all replies and info.

My main point though, to making the statements made, was to illustrate the notion that sometimes on these threads, the Brits are often seen as not capable of many of the tasks mentioned on this site.

The fact is though, BRITAIN has contributed more to the modern world, than any other nation. And i dont care what anyone says, that is a FACT...!!!

So what im really saying is, give the Brits more credit and respect, because, all honesty, we do actually deserve it, dont we?

Its a shame that they wouldn't consider developing a stripped down mud mover version of the Nimrods, without the rather expensive ELINT gear. I can see as it has already been mentioned pulling double duties, in relation to long range surgical strikes using cruise missiles and possibly lazer guided munitions. Like I said, its just a shame that they won't develop a few stripped down versions as a pure bomber.

Oh well... but I have to say some thing, this new version sure does look the business. Oh do any one know if the RAF plan on having them deployed with AIM-9s?

The Nimrod can carry Aim-9’s under its pylons, but I don't know if they will still load them on after putting in all the bombs, there might be a weight issue.

since the RAF cut their fleet, there are a number in storage that could be recomissioned in a similar manner to the mr4's (complete rebuild) without too much difficulty. Also would they not use ASRAAM rather than the winders?

To be honest, thats what I am not sure of, I know they have done extensive weapon release trials with the AIM-9s, not to mention carrying them operationally. I haven't heard about any ideas about upgrading the defensive weaponary, not to mention any testing, but your right its more likely they will upgrade it.

Just wish they would take the time to upgrade the rest of the fleet to to either a strike aircraft or upgrade it to the MR4 standard.

i dont see why not, they have just gone through upgrading all the fighters to carry asraam so it shouldnt be too hard.

did you know the vulcan`s carried 2 AIM-9`s under the wings on teh blackbuck missions? and 2 aircraft were supposed to bomb pert stanley - but 1 aborted late into the mission and landed in chile , but a fault meant i couldn`t ditch both AIM-9`s , and it still had one on the pylon when it landed.

couple of points!

The vulcan was returning from a mission when its refueling probe broke.
It diverted to Brazil not Chile
The missile was a shrike not a sidewinder
