This has been happening for a while now, since last year, it always happens when ever I play a game on the computer, Im in the middle of a game and then boom, it shuts off! I sent it out to get fixed, I got fixed. The ppl who repaired said that the fans below the laptop had to much dust inside, causing it to over heat and shut down.

Now after 'bout 10 months of being fixed, it shuts down again!
Its driving me crazy. I don't wanna keep sending it to get it repaired, cuz its costing my parents money, is there any way I can get it fixed home?

Probably shutting down as they say as too hot. Games are not too good on laptops unless you have a real good one.

If its still happening when not playing the game right click on my computer icon then manage, look at event viewer any software or system problems forcing it too shut down, just a pointer for you.

as well as the usual virus/spyware and defrag routines hope you fix it.

Regards

Elf

soz above was assuming windows XP

ps as well right click somewhere free on the desktop right click and go to properties then open the screensaver tab and see if you have a button for power options, see if its something there, also check to see if hibernation is on and the actual screen saver settings.

Purchase a can of compressed air at Walmart, or just about anywhere with computer supplies.

Spray it gently into the vent to help blow out the dust that is in there.

You may get lucky and it cleans it enough to stop the issue.

Then keep it off the floor and away from direct sunlight while in use.

Same thing happens to me, it can overheat and "Boom" just shut right off. What i have done is propped my laptop up at an angle so the fan has space to breathe.
I also downloaded something called SpeedFan 4.20, it shows the temperature of your computer. I have noticed mine gets hot if i have a lot of things running simultaneously. My computer tends to shut down at around 62-64 degrees remote temp, so i make sure that it does not get up this far if i can.

I also clean my fan as best i can on about a weekly basis, i have been considering getting some compressed air, i may just do that next time i go to the computer shop.

The same thing happened to my laptop, I didn't know what was going on. Then when I felt the temp. before it suddenly shuts down, I noticed it was extremely hot and the fan was quite loud.
After I did some searching on the internet I found out that my 'headsink' is cover with a layer of dust, (which at first looked like there wasn't enough on it to cause the over heating) so I cleaned that up using the proper tools the site recommended, and presto! The laptop ran flawlessly.
If you look up how to clean heatsinks on your model, you should be able to find something like the location of the heatsink, removing screws, and how to clean it.

whoops, didn't see that the problem was solved.

Why desktops are better. Friend has a laptop and bought a fancy fan thing that sits on the bottom cause I kept kicking his ass in Counter Strike Condition Zero since he was always worried about his laptop over heating and was trying to do as little as possible.

Lol. Computer dust seriously looks like it's carrying the plague, everytime I see it I start holding my breath thinking that i'm going to breathe something in. Then I just remind myself that it's only my computer and the dust must be defeated!

Laptop's are great and serve their purpose well, as in school, uni' and business. Some games are fine too. But 'high end' games really tax the cooling abilities of a laptop.

My nephew has a desktop PC and runs ram intensive flight sims, as he wants to be a pilot.
Anyway, even his desktop gets quite hot, so my brother just took the case off and did some modifications. He drilled a heap of holes in it and put the 'tower' on the desk with a wooden block under each corner to help ventilation. It worked a treat.

Hah, the fan in my desktop keel'd a couple of months ago. Now when I want to play a game or something, I have to open up the side casing and take my stand up fan (yes the ones you use to cool down a room) and point it towards the inside of my computer. It's quite funny actually, because it works flawlessly, just looks real bad. lol.

I am fine doing this on a desktop but I find laptops bldy difficult to take apart and put back together again and tbh don't want to risk not being able to put all the cables back in the case again :p mind you my laptop doesn't shut down :p

At Wal-Mart today I saw an interesting little tray to set on your laptop on. The tray had 2 fans mounted in it, and plugged into a USB port. It was by Targus, for about 24 dollars.

Let me see if Ican find a link.

Yup, here it is, or some variant. Looks pretty cool, (excuse the pun).
