An online gamer was sentenced to death after murdering a fellow player — in real life — in a dispute over a virtual weapon used in a fantasy game, a news report said Wednesday.

Gamer kills fellow player

Read the article. Apparantly, Qui lent Zhu his virtua weapon the "Drangon Sabre." However, when confronted by Qui, Zhu sold it on his arse without permission. In the end, one thing led to another and Qui stabbed Zhu in the chest multiple times.
Oh yea, Qiu reported the loss of the Dragon Sabre to police but was told it wasn’t real property protected by the law.

Tough pill to swallow huh?

Its real money guys. No different than somebody killing somebody over rights to intellectual property or something of that nature.

Don’t think that in-game item is real? Then head over to EBay and type SWG or EQ2 in there and see what you find. I used to sell kits to make an item in AC for $20 each a few years ago. People bought them like hot cakes.

I sold a SWG account last year for $1600US, sixteen hundred bucks for an account log in and a password to a game. Some experts are saying that sales of mmorpg game items and accounts is easily a $200 million a year industry. SOE is actually giving into it and starting a secure service to administer the trades. How many people die getting mugged each day for $20 cash? Its not so hard to believe that a kid was driven to murder over an "intangible" in game item.

Haven't you heard of the gold mining in WOW? Was a huge moneymaker until they cracked down on it. They even had/have prostitutes and strippers up there.

It's real, people.

*insert comments about the dude being nuts, etc*

This stuff is real. Just because it's online doesn't mean it isn't valuable to you. It's going to be a growing problem in the next few decades - virtual property. Keep an eye out, this will come up with more and more frequency.

Hahahaha, funny as hell! I mean, I have heard of people paying for stuff online. Hell, friend of mine made accounts and sold them on D2. Multis for people so they weren't using accounts made by them.

Anyways, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! What a douchebag! Hahahaha, "What did you do?" I killed someone over a video game, well, not a game, something in the game.....

well some items in those games are unique and only 1 per server sometimes 1 per all of the game and l00t whores fight over them constantly i mean if you really knew what all went on in those uber guilds you'd vomit, cybersex ain't all of it but its a start, I never could be social enough to ever be in one of those, I was ultra violently antisocial waaaaaaaay back when I played Ultima Online when it first came out hehe...

The Dread Lord Six

had many a death threats too lol

btw just look up and see how much eq2 chrs run for and wow account and even SWG Jedi Accounts.

There are people who actually make a living off farming in game items, imo its lame to buy that crap ain't part of the fun suppose to be building you chr and collecting various junk?

oh well i hate those games they're all the same boring ass level tread mills to be honest

I require instant killifcation of my fellow players.

You probably use wall hacks.

Personally, I'd prefer not to have my sexuality questioned by strangers online simply because I do beter than them. Plus, mac games are much better.
