I was always more a fan of the UK Issue SA80. Good weight and fairly accurate! (as long as you keep the sand out! lol)

I used the early model when it was introduced, and it was pretty much a pile of crap, the magazine release catch was toward your body and didnt have a guard round it. The magazine release catch would bang against your body and pop off the the magazine, result? scrabbling round on the ground for rounds and hopeing you havent lost any. The gas parts would also foul up pretty quick with crap and required constant cleaning. But since HK modified it it seems to be getting a lot better. But then the M16 suffered in its early days and is now a very reliable weapon.

The S.U.S.A.T.( Sight Unit Small Arms Trilux ) is a bonus tho exellent bit of kit and comes as standard.

1. Survival Knife (kind of takes care of many things at once...matches, knife, compass, first aid, water tabs, fishing line and hooks, saw, etc.)

2. Solar-charged flashlight.

3. Grommer tool (pliers, screwdriver, etc. all in one)

4. Solar-charged/hand-crank radio.

5. First aid kit.

6. Survival Handbook.

7. Nice pistol, lots of ammo, and a good holster.

8. One of those little e-book readers, and lots of little book files. (try to preserve a little of what might be lost...literature, science, art books, etc.) and batteries.

9. Mess Kit (try to eat like a civilized human being)

10. Toiletries (bar of soap, deodorant stone, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, TP, etc.)

11. Lots and Lots of cigarettes and alchohol...(I don't smoke, and I don't drink much, but this will be my spending money in such a world, hehe...)

12. Good combat fatigues, boots, coat, etc. (military quality)

13. 2 man dome tent, a sleeping bag

14. Spices

15. Seeds for food plants

16. A lockpick gun (so I can get in places and loot supplies)

Navy Seals used this weapon through the vietnam war, until around 1981 I think,it has a rep for being jam-proof,it'll stovepipe when it is really dirty, but it is really easy to clear, just pull the charging handle back and the round falls right out, bolt back forward and it's good to go.

It can fire about 600 rounds before it really has to be cleaned, the bolt area is huge,so it cannot jam,it don't care much about dirt unless the barrel is plugged, but it's h-bar so it won't blow up anyway.I tried it,it still works with accuracy!,.

1000 rounds only weigh 36 lbs,9mm luger ammo is very, very common and inexpensive.plus it is commonly used by those who I think will likely end up being the bad guys.

If things hit the fan,I would chop the barrel down, and with the stock folded it would only be about twice and one half longer than a berretta 9mm pistol, plus it is simple to convert it to full auto rock-n-fkn roll mode.

Good enough range,good accuracy,common ammo,proven reliability,what more could a raging lunatic want,Oh yeah,it was inexpensive too.

Seeds and linen bags for sprouting would be a lifesaver if no food is to be found. A small cup of seeds can sprout food for a week, if you are willing to fast for 3-5 days. They can be carried as you trek, and provide some agriculture when the time comes to settle. Still trying to decide which seeds are best. If anything, cannabis seeds supposedly contain large amounts of protein even before sprouting.

the whole world is covered with seeds, even in the winter, all you have to do is find them,a t-shirt stretched over a plastic bag in a depression in the ground with water in it is all you would need, and a warmish place to do this of course.
Does anyone know of a plant that is toxic even when it is just a sprout?.
