hmmm lets see
i'd have a combat knife, some of those crappy ration packs, waterproof matches, handheld gps (no use for a cell phone), compass, flares, tinderbox, one man tent, a pot to cook stuff in,a really good pair of hiking boots, army pants with all the big pockets, pen and paper, a beretta 92f 9mm with a least 4 spare clips, and i'd be carrying a Heckler & Koch G11 assault rifle, with an underbarrel grenade launcher, and hollow point rounds, with at least 6 spare clips and 10 grenade rounds, oh yeah a set of nightvision goggles would be good too.....................................

I'd take what I normally take when I go hunting...as little as possible, for you can pretty much find what you need in the bush - providing you know what to look for.

So...My usual hunting kit:

Very basic High-Energy food supplies, twine, fishing nylon, hooks, Army/SAS Med-kit, collapsable E-Tool, 'Tunnel Rat' torch and spare batteries, Thermo-Sheet, ammo, belt with pouched Kukri knife and thin bladed 'fillet' knife, canteen. Weaponary: 270 scoped 'fibred and rubberised' body Bolt Action hunting rifle, cut-down Mossie 500 Pump.

...all ya need...if you need anything more then ya don't possess the skills to survive long term in the bush and are dead anyway...

Peace,
ALIEN

Yup...the humble Mossie 500, great reliable shotty. Mine is a cut-down version (though better not say that too loudly, our Govt don't like people doing that) with its own pouch that I normally strap to the side of my hunting backpack...

Nobody is bringing anyone of the opposite sex. My girlfriend would be the first thing I threw in my sack, for those long cold dark nights of nuclear winter.

For a good shotgun, look into the Mariner, it is salt water resistant as it was designed to be used in the oceans. So it will have a longer and higher level of weather endurance. I like automatic shot guns personally, not that pumps arn't nice. But the concept of sweeping fast and rapidly appeals to me...

Someone mentioned gold above.

During the Second World War British agents and insurgents were funding different factions of the Greek Underground with Gold Sovereigns but the actual value decreased as the Greek Islands became short of food.A Gold Sovereign would just about buy you a chicken. The Communist Faction simply saved the gold up and took what food they needed from the populace. The gold, they hoped, would in part fund any revolution after the Crisis of war when the value of gold returned to normal.
In short,Gold is a good investment during unpredictable times but when real chaos hits food has more value.
