At first ...I was a bit worried by three things
1. the fact that by your handle you are in Jersey (so am I)
2. losing sleep (so am I)
3. being woken up just before fully sleeping by an odd noise...weird..me too.
But then I remember when I would practice astral projection regularly, that this sort of SNAP CRACK attack would happen. Its normal, and is somewhat
related to the hallucinations one gets from sleep paralysis, but a little different.
Audible Hallucinations are more frequent when you don't get enough sleep, same with visual ones.
I just experienced this a few days, and haven't been able to get to bed before dawn since, the sound of morning rush hour(s) because like a white
noise over the "whats that in the dark" silence of my usual 2AM crash time.
Now that you have embarked on a path of knowledge that was not commonplace for you before, you will have a number of odd experiences. The madness of
the wise perhaps?
But I've seen it before, seekers into new realms of consciousness (to them) all experience weirdness, some will call them ghosts, and some of the
nuts around here think they are demons, others will say its aliens....I will tell you the truth, its all part of the process, totally normal, like
muscle aches and working out.
If you are attempting to AP before you sleep: don't.
I've had instances where AP = full energy recover = no sleep for 32 hours or so.
The body/mind may be charged to full power but eventually the lack of shutdown time brings on the hallucinations and other unwanted side effects.
That is why ritual is important.
The most common ritual: take a leak, wash hands, brush teeth, sleep.
You simply need to adapt your normal rtiual to doing you AP work an hour or so before you intend to sleep, write you experience in a journal, and then
go nod off normally. Do not AP in bed, as when you crawl into bed your body will think: Hey its time to go mind walking! instead of "Hey its time to
shut down!" Separate your AP and your sleep rituals.
