Crazy question?

With all the star wars hype I started thinking about light sabers. My fiirst question doesn't have anything to do with aircraft but bear with me here.

Question 1: Hyopthetically if a light saber could be built how would they control the length of it? I would be like using a laser pointer, but trying to get the laser to stop at X distance.

Question 2: The light beam of a light saber has mass as it can cut thry things etcc.. My question is: Hyopthetically speaking could you build wings for a plane or rotor blades for a chopper out of light?

Whether you think you can or can't build wings of light please explain why.
