Too many of you are clued up on "Patton" the movie and not Patton, the man.

He was a kind intellectual, he was well versed in history and enjoyed poetry, both reading and writing.

Patton the movie conjures the image of a gravel voiced rule breaker but in reality Patton spoke with high pitched voice, hated crowds and was a career soldier willing to bend to the bureaucracy.

A great man, don't soil his name with bull# like that flash movie.

yeah, next you'll be saying he was a homosexual democrat

there should be a W(Below)TS vote. i would use all mine on the war mongerers fixed on death. but go on, find yourselves a reason to kill. patton isnt completely irrelavent, but he did not witness the mass brainf*ck going down in America. its actually sad to see pattons 'ghost' reduced to silly internet war mongering.

So what would you have us do lost? we pull out of iraq we dont fight. then what? do we just go ahead hand over our country to them. do you want to live under the rule of jihadists? do you want to be an occupied country? and dont give me the "us started this" because no we didnt. those finatics on 9/11 did. Place the blame where it belongs.

i will tell you what we should do. we should make war the last resort. we should know who our enemy is. "those *vague* finatics" lol. america under jihadist rule, please, go swallow another lie.

place blame where it belongs? ok. tell me. a handfull of CIA trained saudis in afghanistan somehow places blame on not only Iraq, but the whole of Islam? My friend, you are in denial, and are rationalizing much death.

even by the offical story (which is complete BS) this war is not justified.

Dear all,

We have the usual suspects spouting the usual BS.

"Let's kill em all and let God sort them out"

"Shoot first, shoot again, keep shooting till your the only one standing. Oops, sorry to the innocent bystander. Oops, sorry to the allied troops. Oops, sorry to my platoon members."

The lack of combat experience in this thread is obvious. Too many wanna be war heroes who do not understand the realities of war.

Do any of you have hard evidence of the CIA conducting terrorist missions out of saudi arabia? hell, i will settle for a news article. the link between saddam and al-qauda is poorly established i agree, but how does zarqawi activly pass messages to bin laden if they were not in cohoots? how is there an al-qaeda in iraq? and i think the fear was iraq developing sophisticated weapons, bio, chem, nukes, and giving them to terrorists. They were paying bounties to hamas so there is another connection to terrorist organization. Also iraq is also a chance to get a foothold in the middle east to provide support to the new iraqi government as well as a strategic base of operations. whether you like this war or not is irrelevant at this point because we are there.

Then it is all speculation, yes? You ask for hard evidence in your last post, but you do not care for hard evidence for the reasons your country went to war?

No 911/Saddam link.
No WMDs.

Yet you support it so fervently. Why? Do you realise the implications of your government (and our governments - coalition) getting their intel so tragically wrong? Does this not outrage you? This is not simply a mistake. You do not make mistakes of this magnitude. There is either something else up here or our governments are so incompetent that they should not be in power. This is fundamental.

First of all La_maximus you need to see a shrink!!

And wanting you kid to go to war is just a sign of a nutter. Think about it the US army are using Depleted uranium munitions and you wanna serve your country, they will kill you as well as most biological life around the contaminated area including Iraqi people and the troops of all coalitions. Since we started using nuclear waste as ammunition we (UK/USA) have used half a megaton of DU on innocents and you tell me 911 was a tragedy. 911 is not going to last 4.5 billion yerars unlike the DU that will traverse the globe and kill MILLIONS slowly but surely. Don't get me wrong it was BAD, Really BAD but it does not give you the right to invade a country that posed NO threat to your homeland.

NORAD Stood down for an hour on the day of 911.

FBI agents are ORDERED not to arrest members of Al-Q even when they knew something was going to happen. British among other countries WARNED you lot about 911 but still you thought the government had it under control.

There is NO link between Iraq and 911.

FBI Cheif ORDERED a Middle-easten man (Mr salam) to blow the WTC (first time round) but HE parked the van 12 meters away and recorded the phone conversation where he was ORDERED to let it happen. HE, Yes the "supposed" terrorist stopped the WTC from coming down first time round you should be THANKFUL!!!

Cheney REMOVED powers from the Command centre in D.C and NORAD on the day of 911 due to war games. Geeee if your stupid government weren't playing these games do you think 911 would have happened, I think not!

Do you like war??? Do you like killing innocent men, woman and children (even unborn children) how would you like it if your country was invaded and the invading soldiers decided to humiliate you and your friends in front of cameras with K-9's. You wouldn't like it would you. Especially if they were using mini-nukes to do the job.

Your own government is poisoning you and you still fall for the smoke screen, I give you a clue as to where you should be looking:

THE FEDERAL RESERVE! owns you, its them you do the dirty work for not your country that you so passionatly love. The bankers play chess with you and you are only a pawn they are counting on you to remain stupid and listen to every word that comes out of the media whores mouths (which they also own). If it weren't for the Fed you couldn't have these fancy smart bombs and big machine guns. JFK was assassinated just a week or so after he made a statement to remove powers and dismantle the Fed. Hmmmmm.....????

I am not Anti-american, pro terrorist or want to participate in war EVER! If it came to that I would fight as would anyone but to fight in a war where you lose no matter the outcome is stupid. Face it people terrorists are real but not as dangerous as your government has led you to believe.

You government LIEs to you left, right and centre yet you still believe the crap they say.

Just an example: How can you believe the government when they say There is a war on drugs yet 2 seconds later they singing and dancing about how good alcohol (a drug) is??? Am I missing something here.

As for the General I think he would be most pi$$ed at the government for nuking its own troops and do nothing to protect them.

www.abovetopsecret.com...
US soldiers are returning from Iraq to die of "mysterious" ailments - and the depleted uranium (DU) poisoning scandal just won't go away, despite efforts to cover it up. Protesters in New Haven spoke out last week against the U.S. military's use of DU, its effects on US troops, and cutbacks in veterans' medical benefits. The DU test costs $1,000, so the U.S. government won't test for DU poisoning. "More than 240,000 Gulf War veterans are on permanent medical disability and more than 11,000 are dead. They have been denied testing, medical care, and compensation for depleted uranium exposure and related illnesses since 1991," say reports. A U.S. government study found that 67% of post-Gulf War babies have serious birth defects or serious illnesses. In Italy, eight soldiers home from Iraq died of cancer, probably caused by DU exposure. Today, Italy proposed new legislation to censor media covering the military. The new law would bar any reporting on the health effects of depleted uranium. Anyone who breaks the law could face up to 20 years in a military prison, including civilians.

I know you will think I am rantin' about this but you need to WAKE UP!

ok, so everyone stop protesting. damage has been done, and by god, more damage to come. huh?

well, when i see a problem, i like to fix it. understand, i am not condoning an immediate exit strategy. i do not want to create an even more hazardous environment for the iraqi people. and hell, any 'form' of democracy is better than saddam.

BUT BUT BUT, when daddy Bush is the xhead of CIA and the CIA trains our enemies, i wonder.

when the brother of the very culprit behind 911, binladen, financed our current president Bush's Arbusto Oil, i wonder.

when Colin Powell shows the UN pictures of 'WMD facilities' afterwhich none can be found, i wonder.

when no modern steel building has ever collapsed from heat, let alone 2 in a few hours, i wonder.

when all this happens by supposed accident due to our defensive and intelligence failures, yet an official story is released hours later cementing Binladen as culprit *no investigation* I WONDER.

now the above are FACTS, and seemingly should be HEADLINE news. they ATLEAST call for a real investigation.

nope. the headlines go to michael jackson and the like. wake up america.

I'm actually kind of upset with the original poster of this thread because the title doesn't have all the warnings in it that it should. Yes, some of the images are graphic - but then again, most of us here had already seen them. But where was the warning of the nauseatingly stupid comments contained in it? Nobody gave me a heads up that I was about to endure occular degeneration from exposing my eyes to brain-munching idiocy.

Maybe you could go into your original post and place the following warning right above the link:

*WARNING: Some folks have gone blind from the stupidity contained in the following link.*

I think it's a bit of a shame, really, that Patton has been dragged into this as the whole thing has degenerated into the usual pro/anti war rhetoric.

Patton was certainly an excellent General who earned the respect of his troops and peers (even if many of them did think of him as an egotistical, self-obsessed diva). It is clear however, that he was a political incompetent. For example, his penechant for filling his German staff with unrepentant "former" Nazis which was universally frowned upon. That act in itself gives (in my opinion) a fairly revealing insight into his persona, that being the inescapable fact that he didn't really hold anything against his former enemies regardless of the atrocities that they had commited. He faught against the Germans because he was told to, and he loved the abstract chess game that was his vision of war, pitting his grand strategy against an equally talented opponent. And winning.

The only Political conviction that he seemed to have was his virulent anti-communism.

Sorry if I've gone "off topic" but I thought it was about time that the fellow in the title of this thread was talked about in a bit more detail.

You've obviously never spend your times in the Chinese prisons, Iranian prisons, or some of the worst prisons around the world where people are being kept in the wrong, horrible conditions of all kinds. At least American prisoners seem to be better off than the rest.

right if they are all so guilty why has not a single prisoner been charged with anything eh? and why have they released several as well? answer me that

And what the hell has chinese prisons got to do with the illegal imprisonment of muslims? Using torture makes you no better than your 'friends' in saudi arabia who have one of the worlds worst human rights records. Are you going to go nto war with them to remove their corrupt regime?

It's a well known FACT that no useful information is ever obtained from torutring people, they will just tell you what they think you want to hear.

The difference between you and General Patton is that General Patton was far more realistic and brutally honest about life than you. At least you're living comfortable and cozy right now thanks to the Allies' victory over the Nazis and you can thank General Patton for his sheer drive to push the Allies to shoot that "paper-hanging SOB" in Berlin!

We in europe are grateful to our friends in america for the help they gave us 60 years ago. The difference then is that there was a very real threat to us unlike now when the entire war on terror is a myth. There is no threat from muslims to you, the only threat to you is from your own government

Wow! You knew Patton!?! Tell us a story uncy Ed! Tell us a story!

Have you ever read a book? Patton was my Dad's favorite General of WWII and that was a tough one considering McAurther had the smallest casualty ratio. So lets just say I have spent many hours discussing or reading about the man.

Personally, I thought he was a bit strange, elitist even.

But the attitude was correct - He did not like the peace nicks whiny crybabies. Hell he admired Rommel but when tasked with a job by his nation he did not sit on his ass bitching and questioning everything he was told to do. He followed his orders and helped his nation win the western front.

He would look upon this Tulipwalker crowd today and probably puke.

the real patton

en.wikipedia.org...

George Patton was the focus of the 1970 Academy Award-winning movie Patton, with the title role played by George C. Scott. As a result of the movie and its now-famous opening monologue (based on a real speech he often made to Third Army troops before the Normandy invasion), in popular culture Patton has come to symbolize a warrior's ferocity and aggressiveness.
Historians, however, have often disparaged the movie's accuracy, noting the heavy influence of Omar Bradley as senior military advisor and writer. Bradley, played in the movie by Karl Malden, had a tumultuous relationship with Patton and the movie's treatment of him is blatantly hagiographic.

The image of Patton in the movie is somewhat misleading since the opening monologue is delivered from a stage in front of what sounds like a very large audience. The real George Patton was not known as a good public speaker. He was very self-conscious and knew that his high-pitched voice risked making him sound like an old grandmother, unlike the gravelly voice of George C. Scott, who confidently delivered a finely tuned and concise speech.

An ironic aspect of the movie was Patton's depiction as a fierce and aggressive warrior. George Patton was certainly a very persistent individual who reached his goal of becoming a great general after having overcome disabilities that are often overlooked by some of his more flattering biographers. Contrary to popular belief, Patton was a career officer and a team player who supported and was supported by his brother officers, within the context of a large military bureaucracy.

Yeah great just what you need to fight dem terrorist...a man who sounds likes a grandmother

edit: thought I should explain the word hagiographic for our neo con friends as it is a bit of a long word for them

hag·i·og·ra·phy
n. pl. hag·i·og·ra·phies

1. Biography of saints.
2. A worshipful or idealizing biography.

Can you define "Tulipwalkers" for me?

Is it just everyone who disagrees with you or is it more specific?

And those of you who keep saying what about all of the men and woman in uniform getting killed, When we signed up for the military we knew there would be a chance that someday we would be called to fight for YOURYOUR freedom.

I have just finished reading about General Patton on Wikipedia. If you haven't already done so, please do. It is quite interesting, especially the section covering the uncensored (i.e. different to the film - the film version has been, eh, made a little bit gentler!!)

Then and maybe then, you will come to realise what I did.

The vast majority of those shouting their support for war and destruction seem to be suffering from the Patton condition!! That is, they think honestly they are George S. Patton! Read their posts and you too will see the ghost of old blood and guts SOB Patton channeling through these good americans. Or so they would like you to believe!!

Guys, a word of advice. You could pick a better role model for yourselves and the kids you are raising. Pretending you are Patton is not smart OR funny.
