Sorry folks.

All is well now.

It was a pretty harmless crack on the forum templates. As is the case with all software, no matter how much time you spend on security, there is always a way in... this was the case here. I noticed the exploit technique and I've taken some countermeasures to make sure it can't happen again.

The attacker was apparently inexperienced as I was able to locate his IP in the server logs. I send a record of his activity to his ISP (what he did is only marginally illegal, so no sense in going to law enforcement). Unfortunately, it was a member of the boards. He is now banned.

Please don't ask who it is. And please refrain from speculation. Enough has happened to cause chaos, let's just get back to discussing the issues of our era.

Its good to see that we're back up quickly and nobody was blamed unnecessarily.

What is the ISP, IP and what are server logs? At least we know it wasn't me.

ISP = Internet Service Provider; server logs are...well..logs of the ATS server, it tells who(IP numbers) visited ATS and what they visited...

LOL Fury,

Thanks William. I was pretty mad. I was browsing through some of the old threads on the Secret Society Forum then I went to the home page and it shut down.

Good work.

Very professional sir.

I hope whoever the member was that did that gets a major burning and ichy rash over their private areas that can only be cured by soaking in a tub of fermenting yack excriment.

That or his ISP dumps his service. Either one I feel would be a decent punishment.

In another thread i criticized whoever pulled this afternoons "hack" (i use that term for familiarity purposes only, since actions like that take as much skill and ingenuity as opening a can of beans). I did not blame any specific person as I do not know who it was. If david is the spokesman for TBATS and they didn't do it, then fine. My point was just to express my dissatisfaction and disappointment in what went on.

Since people can change their IP#s, can you locate their common source another way?

There is nothing wrong with hacker's. What most people deal with are cracker's. Get it right or keep your opinion to yourself. A "hacker" didn't exploit the forum. A cracker did. I myself am a hacker. Thankfully, I know the difference between both. William, like it or not, your a hacker too!
