For the sake of argument, please consider the following questions.

How many of you have witnessed, first hand, an airplane crash?

How many of you have, in your possession, an artifact from an airplane crash?

I will hazard a guess and say that the answer is going to be less than one tenth of one percent.

Not many people witness plane crashes, however none will deny that they occur.

If one were to apply this same logic as it is applied in the UFO phenomenon, then one could say that planes in fact do not crash because none have crashed in their backyards.

I have never held any aircraft wreckage in my hand therefore, as far as I am concerned there is no credible evidence to support the premise that planes actually have crashed.

Are we, as a society, entirely dependent on the news media to verify reality?

Well, I saw a collision between two helicopters, once. Does that count?

lightseeker is the early returns, more like 99 percent I would guess.

I see where you are trying to go with this but you are going to have to
account for all the folks that have seen the videos of crashes on TV and in the
news, like the Concorde in Europe and etc.... Also you can download
some spectacular crashes from the Paris Air shows, like the Su-27 ??
where both pilots successfully ejected, all on camera. Not to change subjects,
but the real question is how many folks have NOT seen the video of the jet
going into the twin towers on 9/11.

I go to a lot of air shows. Once I had my personal camera rolling when
Dallas Taylor lost his engine in a low altitude loop. There was a tribute that
day at Davis Montham AFB. His Pitts Special went straight in before the
eyes of tens of thousands.

If your question was not retorical about artifacts, I could show you the
general area of five impact places I know of, not counting an F-117 which
I would not point anyone to (the pilot did get out safely). Artifacts are
still findable in some of those areas.

Nightwing,

My intent was to illustrate the mass media influence in the perceptions that people have.

As a sort of analogy, I use the plane crash in the context that , hypothetically speaking, plane crashes were not broadcast in the mainstream press.

So the question is twofold, If the fact that planes crash were not readily disseminated, would people still believe that planes crash based on their own experience, and that experience of others?

and....

Given the relatively small numbers of people in relation to the whole of society who witness such events, firsthand, how then would this relate to the UFO/ET perceptions that people have.

We all know that planes in fact do crash, I was not attempting to argue that point.
