Here's a topic I've studied for some time - One creation or two?

Although it's commonly overlooked, the bible mentions TWO creation accounts.

The first is in Genesis 1:26 - 1:31, and takes place on the 6th Day "And God said, Let us make man in our image.... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

The second in Genesis 2:7, and takes place sometime after the 7th day (which was Gen 2:2) "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three common arguments to this:

1: The main church view is that although the text mentions Adam and Eve after the 7th day, it is merely a more defined retelling of the creation of man in Genesis 1, i.e. it is one and the same creation.

2: An alternate view is that these are two separate creations - the first being that of the Gentiles, the second that of the Jews. This view is the common one ascribed to by many pagans - that, because they are not descended from Adam and Eve, they are not a product of original sin, and therefore, have no need for Christ's atonement of their original sin.

3: Biblical Scholars give us a third view, that because of language differences these two creation stories were written by two different people, in two differen places, at two different times. Genesis 1 being written in the Knigdom of Judah around 800 BC and Genesis 2, even earlier, from the Kingdom of Israel circa 930 BC.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although there is no physical evidence to back up the mainstream christian view, this is the answer you're most likely to get if you ask your local preacher.

The pagans bring up an interesting point - the two stories contradict one another on numerous points. Since (using the christians own view) the Bible doesn't contradict itself, it must be referring to two separate creations.

The Biblical scholars don't actually support one side or the other, but point to the fact that there are differences in writing, dialect, style, etc. point out that these were written by two different people, and were only later (during the priestly period) merged into one book.

There is also the interesting fact that the first chapter the word 'God' is translated from 'Elohim,' while Chapter 2 mentions only 'LORD God,' which is translated from Jehovah. (maybe more on this topic later)

Ordo Crypto

I have been fighting with that for years, I have always said that Adam and Eve are an 8Th day event..

On the 6th day there was man and woman Created at the same time but when you go to the 8th Day, there was only Adam and from reading on, it looks as there were a time spread till God Created Eve for his soul mate.

I to have though that the Gentiles were created on the 6th day because of the number 6 and Abam was specal because he was the first in the blood line on Jesus..

Who did Cane Marry after he was push out of the faimaly after he Killed Able?????????
I don't think he married a sister !!!!

Lilith was apparently the fist woman created.. created from the earth equal to Adam.. she left after they had a battle of wills.. specifically her not wanting to take a subordinate position during sex so Adam cracked it and asked for a replacement wife. When she left.. she uttered god's name which gave her supernatural powers.. she flew over the seas and god sent three arch angels to assasinate her because she swore to kill every decendent of adam and eve.. the arch angels agreed not keep trying to drown her and they reached an agreement that she would only kill children of households without the angels' names written above their doorways.
She herself went on to breed with demons etc. creating a pararelle linege to adam and eve.

I think the story was orginally in the torah but was at some time edited out.
