The "war on terror" is advancing but not yet won, US President George W. Bush has said.
"Our strategy is clear: We will fight the terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them here at home. While some difficult days still lie ahead, these recent victories are making America safer and the world more secure," Mr Bush said in his weekly radio address.
"Terrorists know that there is no room for them as freedom takes root in the broader Middle East, so they are fighting to stop its progress," he said.

"But in recent weeks, we have dealt them a series of devastating blows.

The U.S. should get some more Australian SAS over there and blow the #e out of real targets along with our boys. Pull out all conventional forces like Marines, Army, and Guard. Let the SF do their job. The Iraqi's will learn real quick that they need to protect their arse's and that were not gonna do it for them. Keep air support, and let SF, like SAS, SBS, DELTA, ODA's and DEVGRU operate freely. Then we will see some real changes - for the better not for the worse. Also the german SF, the french and Austrian boys will be dieng to get in and will get in.

The problem now is there are too many targets against a defined enemy. Patrolling only leads to contact, which leads to civilians getting wasted. Nothing new and plain reality. Don't take my word for it, and certainly don't take DELTA's, the JC's never listen and always pay the price in men and H&M's.

What I said in the last post wasn't fair against the Joint Chiefs. It's the SECDEF who won't listen and I forgot about the SEAL's, hooya, wouldn't be right without SEAL's working the euphrates eh?

I second what vincere7 has said pull the convental forces out of Iraq and bring in the special forces. Bring on the Australian SAS !

Related info.
The US official in charge of reconstruction efforts in Iraq says Washington is far behind in plans to pump $27.7 billion into reconstruction because it is bogged down by an insurgency that has killed hundreds of contractors.

William Taylor says too much of the available money is being diverted to meet increased security demands.

"There is a long way to go. We recognise a lot of work needs to be done," Mr Taylor said.

He said it was still too early to predict when Iraqis will enjoy adequate electricity and other essential services, more than two years after the US-led invasion.

Haven't you ever read 1984? Looks like we're always going to be at war with Eurasia or Eastasia.

I fail to see how fighting the terrorists over there is going to keep us safe over here--oh, my bad, just take away our liberties, that'll keep us safe from terrorists who hate our liberties!

News to the rest of us?

Well, it's obviously advancing and obviously not over. Not quite sure what's trying to be said here...
