Any geologist can tell you that there are huge amounts of water in the earth. If it were to all come to the surface much of the earth would be inundated. Although the bible says there was a flood, it does not say there was ONLY a flood. There could have been an asteroid impact which caused the flood, but the people writing the bible did not know about the asteroid impact(ocurring on the opposite side of the planet), so they wrote about the flood.

There could have been any number of things. What there couldn't have been is enough water to cover everything in the world, short of a miracle, and then, with a miracle, anything is possible, and we are beyond the bounds of science.
