Thai police seize Al Qaeda training video.

An Al Qaeda terror training video has been seized during a police raid on an Islamic school in southern Thailand.

Almost 700 people have been killed in the region during a 16-month-long insurgency blamed on Muslim separatists.

Acting on a tip-off, the security forces staged the raid on several Islamic boarding schools in southern Thailand's Pattani province believed to be insurgent training grounds.

At one, they confiscated electric wire, PVC pipes, a personal computer along with a video cassette on Al Qaeda's terrorist training.

Reports say police also recovered several notebooks containing records of the movement of security officials and maps of several outposts that may have been the target of planned attacks.

It's good news that so much potential infomation has been seized.
The PVC pipes indicate to me that perhaps 'pipe bombs' were one option being considered by this group. And don't forget the PVC pipes are readily available in large sizes/diameter, which would result in a huge explosion.

With finds like this, the margin of free movement and operation for these groups tightens significantly.


On a side note, this is exactly why a great deal of people have a hard time separating terrorism and Muslims. When some Muslim schools are fronts for Al Qaeda, it damages Muslims as a whole. Of course it is ignorant to think that all Muslims are terrorists, but the cold truth is some are, and with busts like this one gives Muslims really bad press adding to the anti Islamic sentiment.

I of course do not think that all Muslims are terrorists or support terrorism. But which ones are? I actually think the responsibility is with the Muslims themselves to prove which side of the fence they fall on. How come we aren’t berated all over the media by Islamic clerics and representatives condemning terrorism and defending Islam? You simply don’t see it. And that adds to anti Muslim sentiment.

If tomorrow Catholics were labeled terrorists as a whole, wouldn’t you expect representatives of Catholicism to defend themselves? Of course you would. Wouldn’t your suspicion of Catholics grow if they didn’t defend themselves from terrorist accusations? Absolutely!
