I have a copy of the Necronomicon, and I've been wondering if it would be a good idea to try what is in it. I a curious if anyone has ever tried to perform any of the rites, incantations, or spells within it?

Congrats. If you're lucky, you got a version made by some Lovecraft fans around the 60's. If not, you got a more recent New Ager version. There's a thread on it, several actually, take a gander and learn the truth. Namely, that it never actually existed until some weirdos wanted it to. It's a purely fictional idea Lovecraft created for his stories.

Or maybe thats just what they tell you so that you won't try anything in it. What exactly would you want to try anyway? Try some chaos magic instead.

I understand chaos-magic and am actually being trained in such workings. what I want to know though, has ANYONE actually tried the spells or incantations/ summonings, etc?

Prove that it isnt real, and I'll provide you with evidence that it is. Simply put, buy a copy of it, and try it for yourself, unless your afraid of being wrong...

A lot of us believe we can control these forces as if we are the ones dictating what is to happen. The thinking is since we're the practicioner or summoner, we're the ones in power, therefore it obeys our will. This is not the case. Eventually, one becomes subject to the will of it, and then defeat follows.

I agree with esoterica, its just a book...maybe in the begining it was more than simply just a book and maybe theres some long lost meaning to the spells and incantations in it,but now, in 2005 its just a comercially produced good read...

It wont have the same effect as, persay, using a quija board..

Uh, yeah! That's it! Just a book, what was I thinking? Waste of money really. If you have one, just tear it up and throw it away.

It'd be difficult to decide whether or not the outcome was actually because of the spell or something else. I'll give you an example.

Keep in mind that I have never looked in the Necronomicon (other than on video games) so I have no idea what sort of spells it might hold. So this is just an example.

If there were a spell to... let's say... make it storm, and you said the spell, and it stormed. Would it be storming because the spell from the Necronomicon worked, or would it just be coincidence?

Obviously I'm aware of the fact that it would be much more complex than that, but that's basically what I mean.

Originally posted by AnnunakiIt IS real. I am getting annoyed of people who are convinced that it isnt. Why do you think so?

Doode, the Necronomicron was an invention of lovecraft, he made it up for his Cthulu related stories. Its not a real book. Apparently some of his fans made up a book and called it that.

what I want to know though, has ANYONE actually tried the spells or incantations/ summonings, etc?

They can try it all they want, but its obviously not going to work, outside of magic itself not working, because the necronomicron is a fake book. Its like find a "Jedi Workbook" or, better yet, its like those "Star Trek Techinical Manuals". Everything is laid out in detail, but it doesn't work, becuase its fiction.

Why don't you take some photos of the book and scan some of the pages and post them, then we might be able to compare it to the books apparently made by Fans of Lovecraft.

Prove that it isnt real, and I'll provide you with evidence that it is.

The proof that it isn't real is that Lovecraft made it up for his fictional stories. It didn't exist before his stories. He made it up.

I find it amazing that someone can say that the necronomicon of Lovecrafts stories is real, as described, that you have a copy of the text written in human blood and bound in human skin by the mad arab, but don't think that there's any reasons to not try its 'spells' out. Lets pretend that the book is in fact real. If you work its magic, you are going to be devoured by the ravening elder gods and torn apart by the old ones, with everything and everyone you've ever known or been associated with being utterly destroyed and horrified. IF you are really really lucky, you'd just have your mind completely shattered and spend the rest of you life scrapping imgaginary bugs from the nether regions off your flayed skin while you bloody up the walls of an insane asylum.

The necronomicron is not real. If it was, only a lunatic would actual use it, or even keep it.

The book is fake. Fake like Vulcans and Klingons, fake like the Spice from Dune. HP Lovecraft was a horror writter, he made up peoples, places, things and events, thats what writers do.

Uh, yeah! That's it! Just a book

Its not even a book. Its a fictional thing that HP Lovecraft made up for his terrifying horror stories, to use as part of the story, people use it, they end up going mad or dying. SOme people apparently decided to 'make it', its probably filled with all sorts of gibberish. Undoubtedly they included some of what they thought were 'spells' and 'incantations', but its all BS.

Hell, you can purchase it on amazon here. But its the super evil scribblings of the possesed mad arab from syria, right?

The Necronomicon is fiction, invented by H.P. Lovecraft and perpetuated by his peers and fans.

There are many books in print called "The Necronomicon", but all are works of fiction written by western writers in the last 75 years or so. If you believe otherwise, you are falling for one of the greatest literary pranks in history.

I have found an excellent link that explains this in detail, and provides actual quotes from H.P. Lovecraft stating that the Necronomicon is a work of his own inventive mind. However, I did not go beyond this one link, for as the URL for this site suggests, it may be a little "controversial" for some readers. However, the information on this one, single page about the Necronomicon, IMHO, is exceptionally clear and precise.

Here it is, via the Church of Satan web site:
