Greetings,

I have a rather short, question reguarding a occurance which happens every time I meditate for longer than 15 minutes. It really creeps me out because the feeling is so real. I'll include a brief description of the usual first 15 minutes, in case that might have any effect.

To start, I can do this best while lying down in bed. I focus on just staying still, resisting the urge to scratch and move while my mind wanders where ever it pleases. At some point, my body goes from having to be forced not to move, to not wanting to move, then to not being able to feel any part of my body. I suppose this all takes place within 10 minutes. Once at this state, then I begin to focus my mind, thus beginning my meditation.

After five minutes of doing this, I get this incredably palpable feeling of regression. This is the best way I can describe it: Picture yourself lying on your back in a black void. Suddenly, the floor your back is on gives away and you softly drop a foot, then come to a rather abrupt, soft stop, then drop another foot and stop again. This seems to happen about twice a second. I also get the feeling that as i'm progressing backwards, i'm leaving trails of faint blue in my wake. This goes on

I am certain that this is not caused by falling asleep. So what is this then? I've been too creeped out to try and see what happens once I reach the bottom (if there is a bottom).

Whatever news anyone could furish would be of great help. If anyone has any questions or wants some clarification (if I wasn't clear), then ask away.

i've heard a lot of people describe a similar sensation, although the majority seem to regress gradually rather than by fits and starts.

don't worry too much... there's almost always a way back.

people forget to "ground" themselves. this is most likely your guardians doing it for you and when you're properly grounded you can move on

That sounds like quite a strange feeling, I haven't fealt that one yet. Try and see how far you can keep it going and inform us what happens!

While not entirely related, I have heard of things like this where people get so obsessed with the blissful withdrawal of meditation, It absorbs their lives at the sake of social interaction. While definitely not explaining the later feelings you get, it would be useful to keep this in mind, and to make an effort to keep your like balanced.

Lol this is nothing to worry about. it is simply the next step in medition. My Judo teacher explained this to me when, after long periods of deep meditation i began to "feel numb-ish and start to feel like im dropping out of my body, and i cant think, or move or anything" this isnt a bad feeling, when i explained it i did so rather badly but you explained it rather well actually. its just where youre mind begins to enter a state of inner peace. this is quite good and i think the ten minutes of initial relaxation helps, some people find the regression part quite hard
hope it helps!

Thanks for your information everyone. I'll try it again tonight and see what happens after going through this for a little while.

Enyalius, i'm particularly interested in your explaination of grounding. I searched a bit, but couldn't find an explaination of what that means (perhaps I searched wrong?). The only way I could think about grounding is in referance to electrical devices and such. If you could fork over a link, or spare a moment to explain, that'd be great.

grounding...well not sure how to translate it to english. but it's a basic technique everyone must learn, just like how to shield yourself.

grounding basically means that you make sure you won't be overwhelmed, that you can remove excess/bad energy through your body into the ground, that entities can't pull you out of your body as easily as they can when you're not grounded. you do this by imaginening that you got roots growing from underneath your feet growing deeply into the ground untill they cant go further. you can also imagine sinking slowly into the ground with your feet till you're standing firmly. with the sinking image i thought about the way you felt. this is VERY VERY important when working with any form of energy, meditation or astral traveling.

i'm actually worried about how many people work with energies but so little "ground" themselves and even less shield themselves or plainly do it improperly :S

I tried again last night. It seems as though everything proceeded according to the time table I mentioned in my first post. However, I briefly entered this withdrawing phase before I put Enyalius' advice to the test and suceeded in stop the descent. One difference was, right before the regression feeling started, I felt a tremendous jolt. It resembled the feeling you'd get when you just get in an old rollercoaster and it gets thrown into gear.

The regression feeling only lasted a short time. At first, it went as I previously described, but I found out, the more I experimented with grounding myself, the slower it went and the softer it got. It felt like a little bit of a fight, then the feeling went away. I think shielding is a better word for this. Initially, it felt as if there was a onrush going into me. As I experimented around with this grounding/shielding thought, I focused on stopping it and balancing the onrush with an outward flow (gad, it sounds kinda corny don't it?). Well, it worked eventually and the feeling stopped.

After this, I spent what must have been 10-20 minutes in a new stage. I could not feel anything, it was marvelously easy to concentrate and there wasn't anything disturbing me. This stage seemed to last forever, and that is as far as I got.

I'll post if anything new happens with this withdrawing feeling, if not, then thanks to all of yah.

Always use the grounding technique BEFORE doing anything that involves working with energy. might take 5mins at most, or you can use some mantra to aid you. this is not a shield btw, but it is a necesity when it comes to protecting yourself. if you don't do it you make it easy to be pulled out of your body and get a hard time coming back.

shielding is more like...surrounding yourself in a bubble with certain properties to stop various types or energies, or stop certain people from seeing what you truly are, or reflect certain attacks. stuff like that. some shields are easy to set up, others take upto 6 months to learn.
