Pacific Bell Internet Services, a subsidiary of SBC Communications Inc., is suing the RIAA to stop the rash of subpoenas sent to ISPs to stop people
from downloading music off P2P networks. SBC says the RIAA is going too far in its pursuit.
207 subpoenas have been sent to Pac Bell to get them to reveal the identities of file-swappers. Pac Bell says that an independent investigator has
followed suit with over 16,000 warnings and a porn company wants the identities of 59 users.
The SBC says: "The action we are taking is intended to protect the privacy rights of our customers." SBC sees the RIAA's action as opening a
floodgate of hundreds of questionable subpoenas. The RIAA says this was argued when Verizon lost in court.
