Gay Skeletons in Republican Closets - How'd They Get There?

This is not the first time we've heard this story - An outspoken Republican critic of gays was revealed to be gay himself. It's a pattern, and I think it bears examination by the conspiracy minded. Here's the latest story that caught my eye.

This is by no means an isolated incident. I'd like to try and figure out why this is so common, outwardly bigoted individuals, who are in fact, guilty of the same preferences that they find so abhorent in others. It appears on first glance to be a simple case of self loathing and shame, but is it possible there is more to these stories? Some questions...

Is this simple self loathing?

Is it a conspiracy to take homosexuality underground so more can indulge in it?

Is this a common blackmail tactic, in other words, are some of these men innocent? Or is this a case of them being gay, and then blackmailed into political allegiance to those who hold the evidence of their sexual preference?

Who might their controllers be, if it is in fact a pattern of blackmail?

Has this gentleman, or any other who was exposed in the media, voted against his controllers or refused their commands in any sort of provable way?

Oh, by the way, if you didn't read the article, the guy may have had sex with some boy scouts too.

Any comments?

So let me guess, if he was a Democrat, this wouldn't be a conspiracy, but because he is, it is? So if he switches parties, everything will be copacetic?

Other than that, its obviously wrong to develop sexual relationships with boys and young men being he does hold a public office as this individual does.

Well the Democratic party has a number of openly gay politicians in the public eye, the Republicans do not. When a Democrat lies about being gay, they're liars, but they don't lose their base in the blink of an eye. Democrats who come out of the closet don't commit career suicide like Republicans, they can still appeal to the majority of their core voting bloc.

If a Democratic politician was vehemently anti-gay, and it came out some time later it would simply be hypocritical, and he would lose a tremendous amount of popularity, that is, of course, assuming an anti-gay democrat was popular to begin with. The situation when a fiery anti-gay Republican comes out of the closet is not only tremendous irony, but it's also a surefire way to alienate those who elected you, practically all of them. If they don't hate you for being gay, they hate you for lying. If you wanted to assassinate the character of a Republican statesman, what better way?

What I'm talking about here is the pattern that seems to be developing. The Republican party is milking anti-gay sentiment for all it's worth, and this sort of betrayal of those principles seems to be ready made blackmail. It makes me wonder if these situations were set up some time ago, or if they simply evolve and erupt naturally.

Do you think there's anything more sinister than simple hypocrisy? I'm inclined to say no, but it does seem to happen an awful lot. The child molestation thing is old school blackmail as well, it's been used successfully for millenia, and it always works like a charm. Even without proof, the allegation itself is usually enough to destroy a man.

And FYI Seeker, I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I have no sympathy for either party, given their track record of lies. If you think this is a partisan attack, you're mistaken.

I see a pattern, and I wanted to talk about what it could signal, in terms of the state of mind these politicians are in, the way they view their constituents, perhaps the motivation they have for doing what they do, and the possibility of a conspiracy to discredit right wing politicians who refuse some command or another from 'up on high.'

True, though I am not seeing this as a character assassination by someone or some interest group other than the mayor doing it to himself.

Sadly, the actions of alot of political figures betray what they stand for or against. Simply put, hypocrisy exists within virtually all politicians and their parties of affiliation.

Unless there is more to this story and it is backed by 'other' mentionings, I'm not seeing a connection. IMHO.

I think he's Covering His Alligator.

It's the kiss of death for anyone who wants to be a career/famous Republican to be gay. So he felt he had to lie and mislead people.

He may have also felt that "one or two didn't mean I'm gay."

It's self-delusion or hypocracy, but it's fostered by the Conservative Republican witch hunts on gays.

Sometimes I wonder myself about some of the sexual orientations of some of the politicians, from both sides, no because I am against gays but because politics has become so segregated by social issues.

Take the Republican party they are all for religious rights, marriage definitions and the preservations of life.

That has been their motto all alone in their campaigns.

Then I wonder how the members of their parties that have gay sexual orientations have to live with their life styles without becoming an issue in their political careers.

I find it so hypocritical is not funny.

Actually politics and political issues has become in my opinion the biggest circus in this country run by the media.

Get the skeletons out of the closet so we can have a good topic to talk about.

I have heard of rumours that the Chinese and also the Israelis have put certain politicians / business people into compromising positions and photographed them.
To be used as blackmail at a later date, when these people have moved up the political / business ladder.

Ken Mehlman, RNC chair was outed a while back. Donald Capoccia actually resigned as vice chair of the US commision of the Fine Arts, after Bush endoresed that silly constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

While I rather detest the notion of "outing" anyone, especially gay republicans, I have to oblige the notion. It's certainly not fair, but it really is the height of hypocrisy to work for, and help better, people who legitimately wish them ill. And, while most republicans I know don't actually hate gays, they congregate under a big tent pole with those who do - and that makes it a fundemental problem.

Living a lie and denying the truth.

In adopting a highly successful, winning strategy of courting Evangelical votes, nearly 4 million, the GOP chose to make homosexuality a core negative issue of their campaign. It was advantageous to so, but with that, came another heavy price. If these gay republicans come out of the closet, they'll be shunned by their own party. Who's fault is that?

Personally, I think the world would be a better place if the GOP was more accepting of homosexuals, so they wouldn't have to hide it anymore. I wish the world was more tolerant, but we don't live in that world yet. As long as groups like the Evangelicals have votes to court and power to sway, this sort of thing will continue.

What this country needs to begin healing is a Democrat President, A republican vice President, who are Gay, and Get married in the White house.

Then Die of AIDS after a short term of suffering minimized by medecinal marijuana, the vice president replacing the dead president, and appointing a lesbian vice president, who appoints a straight married female vice president and so on.

Now that would really turn things around, dontcha think?

I think WyrdOne might be correct, the stance against homosexuality is a continued effort to maintain control, including blackmail. Like with drugs, if homosexually were to become universally acceptable across the board, the only thing left to blackmail people with is greed, bestiality, and pedophilia.

Funny thing is, they will even blackmail straight people for straight sex.

Okay, this seems a little contrived, a little too easy. I mean, how hard is it to fake chat logs, emails, correspondence of any kind? Were the witnesses plants, or was this guy just a sick puppy? I don't know for sure, but bear with me.

The name of the creator of the Boy Scouts was James E. West. How fitting would it be, in terms of symbolism, if the destroyer went by the same name? I mean, the Boy Scouts have taken a lot of hits, and maybe this is the final nail in the coffin? Ritual symbolism, yadda yadda, just thought I'd mention it.

The two boys he is accused of molesting are now adults, both felons with drug convictions. Strange? A little, IMO. Was this their own idea, or did somebody hire them to defame the man? Did the newspaper play any part in the operation, in other words, was their sting part of a larger operation? It seems like the ones who prompted the newspaper to investigate were the witnesses who came forward and said they had a relationship with West. Were they paid to drop the dime for some reason?

Anybody else notice anything strange, or read any additional information regarding this West fellow? He was a legislator for some time, and I'm in the process of finding out what information I can about his past, and his recent activity. I suppose it could be an old vendetta, maybe he failed to support the string-pullers at some critical junction?

Galliher, 36, of Seattle, and other men who claim they were molested by another sheriff's deputy at the time, David Hahn. Mr. West was not named as a defendant and said he was unaware of the deposition.

In interviews with the newspaper, Mr. Galliher and a second man, Michael G. Grant Jr., 31, said they were introduced to Mr. West by Mr. Hahn in the late 1970's or early 1980's, when the two sheriff's deputies were friends and leaders of a Boy Scout troop. Mr. Hahn committed suicide in 1981 after being accused of molesting boys.

Okay, if anyone on ATS has an enormous amount of free time, and an interest in looking for hidden messages, check this out. I have neither the patience nor the spare hours to sort through this, and my hip boots sprung a leak the last time I attempted something similar. The link goes to what appears to be a sort of running news of the mundane, seemingly without cohesion or a central point and contains numerous (that I saw in a very brief time) very wierd allusions to masonry, hunting, politics, and death, and somewhere in this document is a eulogy written, not too long ago, by West. I would love to know if anyone has any luck deriving meaning from this, but I for one, will not mess with it - it's too long, my eyes are abused enough, and I feel silly reading through it (you'll see what I mean, it's the most random, rambling, small town minutia you could hope to find. There is a tremendous amount of importance placed on dates, I know that will interest some. I almost gave up after scouring for twenty minutes, but I thought, hey, maybe someone on ATS will notice something and the clouds will part, and the light of truth will stream forth. Enjoy. Well, actually, there were problems with the fair, but generally everyone agreed that most involved with the fair deserved an "A" for effort. Some problems were just too large for the staff to do much about. One problem was its proximity to the Berwick Sewage Treatment Plant. I don't know about all this molestation and stuff you're talking about, if that's true then it's bad.

But on the broader issue of gays in politics, there are several gay Republicans and just because they're gay doesn't mean that they want to push the "gay" agenda and talk about their sexuality all of the time. Not agreeing with the gay agenda pushing gay marriage etc. doesn't make them self-haters or whatever other labels liberals like to pin on them.

Certainly, people who lie to gain power will feel the reprisals eventually, it's as sure as the sun rising. These men are lying to their constituents, and pretenending to subscribe to an agenda that they don't practice. The old saying is no less relevant today, practice what you preach. Remember Thurmond, remember Helms, remember Santorum. Those men were floated along through public office after public office, pretenders to the righteous throne. Their constituents heard them talk the talk, and never saw the way they really walked. It's endemic in politics, but particularly American politics, that's what makes me think a blackmail ring is operating in the halls of power.

Understatement of the century! And yes, I know there are a handful of prominent gay republicans, and certainly many closeted ones. And being opposed to gay marriage isn't the only issue, it's the way they talk about gays, the communities they speak to, the hate they endorse with their phony smiles and thumbs up. These politicians change their tune to pander to every group that might support them, no matter how loony the group is.

How many CCC voters would cast their ballot for an openly gay politician? None. How many CCC voters would cast their vote for a closeted gay politician who was outspoken against gays? All of 'em. This is a serious problem affecting the Christian community, if you ask me, because these politicians are making a mockery of the faith! They're using religion to earn the trust of the voters, like that silly websites motto "what a trend we have in Jesus."

These politicians no longer have to appeal to individual voters, they need only spout a few keywords, and let thousands of years of history do their work for them. Values, family, faith. Boom, you've got 3 million votes. It's a serious problem with democracy as a whole, because we're voting for a paper cut-out, a ready made fabrication, designed specifically to appeal to certain active voting blocs. The candidates many people volunteer to work for, candidates people give money hand over fist to, who are they really? They are liars. Simplest answer, most accurate.

They're playing the numbers, nothing more. Just like the market, supply follows demand. There is a demand for intolerant politicians, so the supply increases. The problem is, many of the politicians who claim to be one thing, are in fact another. They are simply advertising one thing, and selling another. It's the ultimate in bait and switch.

Politicians are the McDonalds burger that, in the advertisement, looks fresh and delicious, overflowing with produce and fat patties covered in dripping, melted cheese. Then, when you buy the burger and unwrap it, what do you have? A shriveled hunk of mysery meat and worm casings sandwiched between two crushed and soggy buns.

The problem as I see it, we're so used to being tricked like this, we take it for granted! People just assume their politicians are going to lie to them, and that's okay, because it's 'inevitable' they say. The people are so beaten down by crappy burgers and products that don't work, they've transplanted that apathy and resignation into the realm of politics! People have been brainwashed to accept what they get, and be happy they got anything at all.

Some more thoughts...

The religious right has talked a lot about stacking the deck, so to speak, by inserting sympathetic politicians into positions all over the country, small positions, big positions, basically any position they can claim. This was an effort to ease our transformation from a secular to a religious state. I don't think it's going to work, but I have a habit of being wrong, so let's try to figure out the connection.

Perhaps the Republicans are doing their own purge? They are almost ready to turn America into a theocracy, but they need to purify their ranks first? Just a thought.

What I don't understand is how the conservatives in america take a social issue and make it a political one... the conservatives in the UK have many gays openly serving in their party ranks.

Where i work there are a lot of gay guys and most of them say they were pretty homophobic untill finally realised they were gay.
