BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- A car bomb exploded at the funeral of a Kurdish official in northern Iraq on Sunday, killing about 30 Iraqis and wounding more than 50, the U.S. military, as the death toll in a wave of violence against Iraq's new government rose to at least 120.
The attack on the funeral occurred in the city of Tal Afar, 90 miles east of the Syrian border, said Khisru Goran, the deputy provincial governor and a spokesman for the Kurdish Democratic Party.
The funeral was being held for Sayed Talib Sayed Wahab, a KDP official gunned down by insurgents Saturday in Mosul, Goran said.
At least 110 people, including 11 U.S. soldiers, have died since Iraq's first democratically elected government was approved on Thursday in violence aimed at deflating hopes in Washington and Baghdad that the installation of the new government would curb the insurgency. The government is due to be installed on Tuesday.

They say that it is always darkest before the dawn. I have no doubt that the violence in Iraq will likely escalate to a fever-pitch before it can begin to subside.
We are committed to the cause of bringing democracy to Iraq, though, and we are a stubborn lot. When we really set our minds to a task and bring the power of our might to bear on it, no task is too daunting for the United States to accomplish.
We must continue to support our troops with our faith in them and in the job that they are doing. They need to be shown that if they lose their lives for this cause they will be celebrated as heroes, not used like a punch line to make a political point.
They must know that we as a nation are fully committed to the completion of this cause, so that their sacrifice will not have been in vain.
