Iraq: Gunmen Kill Female Member of Iraqi Parliament.

Gunmen have shot dead a member of Iraq's parliament outside her house in Baghdad, Iraqi police said.

They identified the victim as Lame'a abed Khadawi, a member of caretaker Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's political party.
The attack occurred in front of her home in eastern Baghdad.

She is believed to be the first person in the 275-member National Assembly to be killed.

The assembly was formed after elections on January 30 this year.

This is very sad and could be described a new low in the latest tactics by militants/insurgents.

a very low tactic being used

its sad but not surprise, these insurgents are violating the Koran of killing women.

This is why Iraq is not ready for democracy. They have not shown that the overall make-up of their culture can accept it.

It's not a slight against Iraq. There is nothing about democracy that should make people think it is a natural system for people. When you look at the world's history, democracy has barely existed anywhere, and never in Iraq. Even today, at least 3/4s of the Earth's population does not live under democracy.

It took Europe hundreds of years for their culture to adjust for democracy. If you look at Iraq's history, it should not be a surprise that stuff like this happens. Democracy has to be in hearts of the people. Having elections should be the byproduct that. If it is thrust upon them, then it means nothing.

As i have posted many times in various threads, you can't dictate to a society 'how to live' under any circumstances...be it war or other.

A coalition from the 'west' trying to convert a tribal society in the middle east to the 'wests' version of democracy...whatever that is. It will never work.

Just reverse the situation, and think about it.
