I read Louie Eppolito's book, and he made it seem like he was so misunderstood and maligned for having close (his Dad, uncle, and cousins) family
members in the mob. But, oh no, he never did anything dirty as a cop, one of NYPD's most decorated officers; he was clean as a whistle, just tough
on bad guys, just had the wrong friends and family connections.
Early last month, he was arrested in Las Vegas, along with his long time partner Steve Carracappa, who just happened to live across the street, for
eleven murders committed while they worked together as NYPD detectives in the 80's. Apparently the evidence has been around for awhile, but was
recently corroborated substantively.
Ex-NYPD detectives busted for mob ties
The conspiracy angle here goes all the way to the top. Didn't we just recently have a DHS-boss nominee named Bernie Kerik that was a former NYPD
officer and Police Commissioner of New York in the aftermath of 9/11 step down due to speculation about his sources of income and past connections?
Or was it an illegal nanny? You be the judge. Guiliani sure distanced himself in a hurry on that one.
Is it really just a case of a few bad apples? I watched a special on this on msnbc last night, and the guy they had there to comment on it (and his
new book), Bo Dietl, himself a former NYPD detective, looked like a made man to me, with all his bluff and bluster about being 'self-made', and
'anyone can do it'. Yeah, right. If you want to get dirty. At least Frank Serpico was there to add some legitimacy to the show, it was worth
watching just to see him.
