The first apocolypse

Could the first ice age be the result of mankinds first apocolypse? Aliens our for fathers coming back to Earth to recolonize, only to find the unexpected survivors have established modern earth. Are we simply confused children raising ourselves? Do they discreatly intervien caring for their misguided offspring but respect our own reality?
