Another document from Majesticdocuments.com: The Wilbert B. Smith memo

Now, if I understand this memo correctly, this seems to be an important part of information. This is a document from Canada that states(about UFOs):

1. The matter is the most highly classified subject in the United States Government, rating higher even than the H-bomb.
2. Flying saucers exist
3. Theri modus operandi is unknown but concentrated effort is being made by a small group headed by Doctor Vannervar Bush
4. The entire matter is considered by United States authorities to of trememdous significance

I haven't read up much on Majestic 12, but wasn't Dr. Vannevar Bush supposebly in the group?
If that is so, it almost confirms the existance of Majestic 12, right?
Also, as important as the one above, it states the the U.S government has knowledge of flying saucers and considered it a top priority.
Does anyone have any additional info on the document; If the Washington(possibly) source was/is credible and how and when this memo was released?

Smith did write those notes from memory after questioning Sarbacher about US government knowledge of UFOs in 1954 appx. Once Smith went public with the notes, 'Transport Canada' shut down his funding for his emf research into UFO propulsion.

At this time I'm 60/40 - yes on the authenticity of Friedman's affirmative findings on the Majic (Majestic 12) Documents received by Shandera and (Moore (CIA?) ) on unprocessed film sent to them by mail by an unknown.

Even the most cursory search will turn up the members of Majestic 12. Oddly enough, the evolution of how the group came to be is fairly well documented, sometimes officially, more often than not, unofficially.

It isn't always called "Majestic 12". Often it went by the simpler name of "The Working Group". It seems to have stemmed by a group put together to study the phenomenon, and then called themselves and were known as, The IPU, Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit. Truman then made them "official" and the MAJIC designation begins (Military Assessment Joint Intelligence Committee).

After Roswell, we then see Intelligence funnelled all into the CIA (after Truman's Security Act revamped the defense dept). At that point, we seem to see the focus of MAJIC change, as they now have more pieces of the puzzle. Before, the focus was on identifying the phenomenon, correllating the data, etc. Now the shift became on how to hide it from the public (and rightly so, considering the unknowns still at the time no doubt).

Now, admittedly, the above is speculation, but based on both legitimate docs released via FOIA that mention or imply the working group, and the yet to be authenticated docs, mentioning it by that title or MAJIC, etc. One of these days, I'll organize this into a substantiated post thread, supported with docs, etc. as far as my impression of MJ12.

Ok, thanks for the inputs guys. I just read the Sarbacher worked at the Washington Institute of Technology, and my new question now is: Would it be possible for him to have this information and is he credible?

Here's a Bio of Smith. Seems pretty credible....same with Sarbacher...though I haven't finished checking into him yet.

I am sorry I have taken so long in answering your letters. However, I have moved my office and have had to make a number of extended trips.

To answer your last question in your letter of October 14, 1983, there is no particular reason I feel I shouldn't or couldn't answer any and all of your questions. I am delighted to answer all of them to the best of my ability.
You listed some of your questions in your letter of September 12th. I will attempt to answer them as you had listed them.

1. Relating to my own experience regarding recovered flying saucers, I had no association with any of the people involved in the recovery and have no knowledge regarding the dates of the recoveries. If I had I would send it to you.

2. Regarding verification that persons you list were involved, I can say only this:

John von Neuman was definitely involved. Dr. Vannever Bush was definitely involved, and I think Dr. Robert Oppenheimer also.

My association with the Research and Development Board under Doctor Compton during the Eisenhower administration was rather limited so that although I had been invited to participate in several discussions associated with the reported recoveries, I could not personally attend the meetings. I am sure that they would have asked Dr. von Braun and the others that you listed were probably asked and may or may not have attended. This is all I know for sure.

3. I did receive some official reports when I was in my office at the Pentagon but all of these were left there as the time we were never supposed to take them out of the office.

4. I do not recall receiving any photographs such as you request so I am not in a position to answer. 5. I have to make the same reply as on No. 4.
I recall the interview with Dr. Brenner of the Canadian Embassy. I think the answers I gave him were the ones you listed. Naturally, I was more familiar with the subject matter under discussion, at that time. Actually I would have been able to give more specific answers had I attended the meetings concerning the subject. You must understand that I took this assignment as a private contribution. We were called "dollar-a-year men". My first responsibility was the maintenance of my own business activity so that my participation was limited.

About the only thing I remember at this time is that certain materials reported to have come from flying saucer crashes were extremely light and very tough. I am sure our laboratories analyzed them very carefully.

There were reports that instruments or people operating these machines were also of very light weight, sufficient to withstand the tremendous deceleration and acceleration associated with their machinery. I remember in talking with some of the people at the office that I got the impression these "aliens" were constructed like certain insects we have observed on earth, wherein because of the low mass the inertial forces involved in operation of these instruments would be quite low.

I still do not know why the high order of classification has been given and why the denial of the existence of these devices.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply but I suggest you get in touch with the others who may be more directly involved in this program.

The "Smith and Sarbacher" letters are quite enthralling and have been covered and debated in many books and journals without any definitive agreement.

What really is needed is the Vannever Bush and James Forrestal "Libraries" to be made available to serious research.

The families of these two have have steadfastly refused access.

In the 80s the Bush family allowed brief and limited access to some of his papers, well his aging wife did but permission was soon withdrawn.

Very important man in the USA was Vannever Bush in immediate post war history.

Dont underestimate his contribution to the USA Government and its UFO investigations of the time.

Lets hope his library is never "accidentally" destroyed, there is a lot in it that we could do with knowing.

Maybe some "crew" members on ATS could do a project on the guy some time.

What really is needed is the Vannever Bush and James Forrestal "Libraries" to be made available to serious research.

That sure would blow the doors off, huh? When we see that, THEN we'll know that disclosure is eminent....
