Human waste from toilets on UK trains is being dumped on the tracks at such a rate that it is affecting the ability of inspectors to carry out their work. Safety experts are carrying out tests to see if staff are being exposed to
risks of disease.

Some companies responsible for track maintenance are already employing specialist firms to tackle the stubborn waste, but the problems are increasing where trains spend more time in stations, with passengers then flushing when they shouldn't.

Newer technology, in the form of retention tanks, removes the effluent-dumping hazard, but the legislation is not in place to force train companies to comply with any upgrade recommendations.

ewww. that's disgusting! I had no idea that trains (in the UK at least) dumped toilet waste right onto the tracks. what about people that live near the tracks? jeez.

How could they do that? I wonder if a trains been derailed because of it!

It only gets dumped on a track if the toilet is flushed at a station, and there are signs in the toilet saying not to do this. Some people still do it though, and thats how the waste gets dumped

Why don't they lock the toilet doors until the train leaves the station??

Gross. I was compelled to read this thread, though. Reminds me of jets releasing waste on people's lawns near O'Hare.
