How to explain this…. Got the Bull# Season 2 DVDs. In an episode they go over Tantric Sex/New Age stuff. Not Wicca, which isn’t new, just now coming out of the broom closet since for 1800 years being a witch got you killed, but yoga (stretching) and other BS things. I use the quotes from the people they interview, but add a lot of my own smart ass comments and some of Penn’s. Yes some is straight from the show, but most is either my own words or what they said in my own words, like the hooker part, I changed the joke a little, and used words that I could spell instead of the words they used, and of course edited out the language

Remember when hippies tuned in, turned out, and dropped out? They didn’t know, it might have turned out cool. But looking back on it now, maybe not so much. That’s fine, it’s over, right? Nope, today we have New Age, or Hippies 2000. Some economical hippies have repackaged things like sex and stretching or even medicine and made it into a billion dollar business. They are selling a grab bag of new age, child like things with candles, herbs, yoga, and even “tantric” sex. They claim these things and more help purify the mind, body, and soul.

First on the BS bus tour is yoga. (Stretching) You have people stretching their muscles. That’s it; they are stretching, and learning some interesting sex positions. Nothing wrong with this, it’s cheap, healthy and relaxing. (The stretching part……) But people pay hundreds of dollars for yoga (stretching), when it’s all bull#. Stretching for more then 30 seconds does nothing! Stretch for 30 seconds, or an hour, same result. But some more business like hippies offers all kinds of things to help you stretch. 25 dollars cards to help teach your kids how to stretch, Yoga (stretching) Fit DVD series, Power Yoga (stretching) books, even Senior Power Yoga (stretching) books.

Again, studies have shown stretching over 30 seconds does nothing. Not “a little less then stopping in between stretches”, not “not as much as the first 30 seconds”, but !nothing! Dr. Steven Rice has more on this. “In yoga(stretching) you hold positions for several minutes so the question of whether you are gaining any measurable difference in your flexibility beyond the 30 seconds has not been demonstrated one way or the other,..”

But yoga (stretching) is not the only BS to come from New Age. Rick Ross, cult and New Age researcher has more on this. “New Age is everything from crystals and the special energy power they have to vortexes to channeling.” And of course herbs, can’t forget herbs can we? In fact, they even have Herb Conventions! An herb representative explains the “powers” of herbs as something that works if you think it will, and doesn’t if you don’t. Wait, I thought we were talking about herbs, not sugar pills…… Now yes, Fox Glove has digitalis, something good for the heart unless you take too much, then you die. Cannibas (spelling?) also has some benefits, like increase appetites for people who have eating disorders, or take away nausea for people who are doing cancer treating chemo therapy. But what New Age people tell you is you can cure anything from herbs, which is BS. Tea Leave Oil is not going to cure cancer, or aids, or blindness. Passion Flower will not cure athlete’s foot or arthritis. Yerbamate will not cure you of MS or angina. Dried Maca will not cure you of stupidity, but if you listen to these New Age people, you will start to think so. Odis Sherington is someone who is like a Pharmacist, but instead of real medicine, he sells BS. He even admits that unless you think it will work, it won’t, so we again fall on the sugar pill…… “Herbs have helped in a vast degree from since man had disease, that we know of, from what we’ve had written from Egypt until now. Herb are, I would have to say, easily digestible and become part of, join with the human body when there’s a peaceful, stress less mental condition. Healthy mental attitude towards herbs, towards healing, and letting go of problems herbs work much more.” Gee, like a sugar pill works better if you think it will help. If you think it works, it does, if you don’t, it doesn’t. You hardly ever hear that about penicillin, do you?

Dr. Steven Rice again has concerns about herbs. “If a person is so deeply invested in a New Age belief that they are not seeking medical treatment, that they are ignoring symptoms of an illness that perhaps they need to address, this could become a very unbalanced life.” So, you have cancer that is treatable? Don’t go to the doctor, go to an herb convention and buy dried Dogwood Bark or something…. This is what he fears, and so do many doctors.

Next on the BS New Age tour is Tarot Cards. But in the Bull# show, they did a test, had the same guy get three different readings. First one he dressed as a loser, bad clothes, and no job, whatever. Second one he was highly successful business man who was over worked; third one he was a happily married man. Using cold reading, the tarot readers got what they saw, a loser, business man, or married man, and the reading matched up with that. The truth? He is a business man, not overworked, not married or dating, and not a loser. Cold reading works sometimes, but one can mess with them. Anyone who says they are psychic and haven’t won the million dollars offered to the first person who can proves they have psychic powers in a controlled setting is lying. Now what do these tarot readers charge to do cold readings? One charges $25 dollars a reading, next one charges a dollar a minute, and the third one charges $125 dollars a reading! Hell, I’ll tell the Jack of Cups means you are going to be broke after the reading for $125 dollars a reading.

Ah yes, look to your left as the BS tour bus stops in Sedona Arizona. This town use to be a fishing spot for tourists and it is beautiful with all the mountains and desert. But today it is known as a psychic hot spot, including the most “vortexes” (20) in one place then any other. Yes it’s BS, but people pay THOUSANDS of dollars for vortex tours. Now, what is a vortex???? Susan (last name left out because I can’t spell it) has the answer “A vortex is a giant magnet of energy that’s natural to the mother Earth. These power sites are a door way for spirits, for the energy to come in from the heavens to go to the center of the Earth to go around the Earth.” She offers tours for $175 dollars to all week retreats for $3500 dollars. It isn’t just the uneducated nut jobs who think this; even people who have gone to college think this. Pete Sanders from Massachusetts has this to say. “For me a vortex is an enhanced energy location that helps people do mind, body, or spiritual meditation or prayer exercises.” Of course, a vortex may be hard to find. While giving a “vortex tour” Susan explains to two women how they are on the Airport Mesa vortex, then Airport Mesa was over a mile away…. Even sadder is they were on a parking lot for “spiritual” powers. “If a person takes measuring equipment and takes it to an area where a vortex is, I am sure they will find the energy higher there.” Susan on vortexes again, even though she was on the wrong spot. So BS does this, and finds that a vortex area actually had a lower EMF then a non-vortex area by 5%. There is no science proving vortexes, NONE.

Take a cruise ship over to Hawaii on the BS tour and meet Sasha, a MAN who teaches Tantric Sex. Which is basically a class that teaches foreplay and group sex. In other words, hookers leave the streets and start teaching sex classes. It is illegal to have sex for money, but not illegal to have sex for money in an educating manner. Sasha, a man, says that it helps teach men how to keep themselves from orgasms, but that is what baseball is for isn’t it? In fact legend porn star Ron Jeremy is known for shouting baseball stats to keep going longer. Yes, he will be having sex while shouting things like “New York Yankees vs. the Chicago White Sox 1983 bottom of the 3rd score was 1 to 3!” Later edited out so you don’t hear it. Also, only the women get naked first, as Sasha teaches oral sex, which isn’t that hard if you know where the clit and G-Spot are or have a big tongue or all 3.(thank you very much ladies!) Then Sasha goes on about how it is easier to keep from having an orgasm with a soft penis then a hard one. Gee, it isn’t science that keeping it in your pants keeps orgasms away, and yet people pay for this, $150 dollars an hour.

Wow, what kind of bs are we falling for people? Telling guys that keeping it in your pants to prolong sex for $150 dollars an hour, great lesson, or not. Causing people to forgo doctor visit or hospital treatments for something that could be deadly because you have Dried Maca, makes sense, or not. Tarot reading is not science, it is cold reading, the same kind John Edwards uses or any other "psychic" who hasn't won the million dollars from what's his name?

I am pleased to see that someone else wants to expose the New Age Movement (sic) for what it is ---BS. Of course, unlike a lot of BS, which is mostly harmless, the New Age Movement is more than an assortment of crazy, metaphysical money making schemes. I have come to view this as a movement that is hell bent on DENYING REASON. Left to evolve without examination and confrontation, the New Age Movement aims to lead civilization towards a new DARK AGE. (aren't we heading that way NOW?)

Personally, I've learned a lot of Tantric practices on my own before even knowing what they were... Being able to prolong an O so you get there with your partner, or being able to stretch out an O for several minutes is hardly BS. But, if one is happy lasting only a couple minutes, then more power to 'em. Personally, I think my wife wishes I was quicker....

I'll agree that the majority of the psychic hoopla is a bunch of crap though...

Personally, the REAL psychics I've known, have one thing in common. They either don't charge at all, or charge only what people wish to pay (i.e. the person decides how much it was worth to them).

Wicca is an invetion of the 1700's. Modern 'Druidism' too. Maybe the 1800s.

It's truely astonsihing the number of people who've had serious mental breakdowns while practising medatation. There are about 5 cases that I've read of, and one I've known personally. A word to the wise is sufficient, so let the wise be wary!

In fact the first time I ever saw a headstand, one of the more common yoga practises, was in a documentary on long term mental patients. The guy was in the exercise yard, on his head, and hollering out as loud as he could. A word to the wise is sufficient, so let the wise be wary.

though 2 or 3 scandals were enough to discredit Evebgecical Christianity, the New Age has had oodles. Sai Baba has apparently done a "micheal Jackson" Sai Baba. Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh tried to poison a town in Oregon, hoping to sway the results of a municipal election in his favour - read Hugh Milne's "Bhagwan: the God that Failed". He was a Rajneesh associate for years, and knew where the bodies were buried, literally. Guru Mai apparently has plastic surgery to keep looking young, and has torrid affairs with followeres. The Hare Krishnas have had the child abuse allegations. A few highly placed Krishnas have even been charged with fraud and murder. Still people flock to yoga and meditation classes.
