What would rather be loved or feared?

Well,which one would you guys prefer to be loved or feared?Each have there own destination which would you choose?

Loved, I want know to fear me, man shouldnt fear man.

Love or fear....not really a difficult question is it....I'd rather be loved

I would rather be loved, I could not imagin having people fear me....

I think that would make me a very lonley person, (ie, Bullys)

Being loved means people will rally round to help you, If your feared you may just be left out in the cold,


and also being loved means you get to give love, and that! is the best feeling in the world,

This is pure Machavellian. He stated that a good leader is feared not loved. As an example he said:

A general saw his troops in disaray. He rounded all the captains up and said, "tommorow at 6 am, you WILL have your troops lined up in formation and ready to go. The next day at 6, the soldiers were still bumblin around, so the general rounded up all the captains and had them beheaded in front of the troops. He then picked NEW captains and told them, "tommorow at 6 am!"....nuff said..

ppl who fear you may also be pushed so far that they will kill you to stop the fear...... and set themselves free...

I would like certain people to fear me and everyone else to love me

fear is good in certain situations, with certain people
but in life as a whole, it always better to be loved than feared.

I think I would too but what we want isn't always the road to compromise. People love people and hurt them everyday. People love other people and would hurt them if not for the fear of punishment. I'd like it if all it took to get me through the world was for people to love me but thats not realistic. People must also fear the ramifications of attempting harm. It what is supposed to keep us in check.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is that its actually a mixture of the two emotions. I have people that love me but in a despirate moment they might be willing to do me harm if not for the fear of punishment either by me or the authorities. Sometimes, sadly, both are not enough anyway.

I think that like most normal, healthy, well adjusted people I would love to be feared, and fear to be loved.

well my rather large groupf of friends love me but as far as enemies go i want to be feared.

machiavelli had another quote i used to be obsessed with

they are both amazing books you have to read both of them.

yes, and I would have to say that Sun Tzu is very far ahead of Machevelli. Machevelli is something we read in high school, when sex hormones first began to corrupt our blood stream, and we started to become the sly, scheming people who would soon be unleashed onto the world. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Trouble is, most of it is general, impractical, and of no real use. Sun Tzu, who came out of the Taoist traditions of ancient China, was far more insightful. Liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith once said "never make a simple situation complicated, there are other ways to demonstrate sublty of mind". Indeed, why demonstrate it? The next time you play the game, remember - Pros keep it simple!

Also try Balthazar Gracian's "The Art of Worldly Wisedom". Much better than Machiavelli.
