I don't think the enormity of this is sinking in yet, Sunset Boulevard Malibu beach are no more. in a clip from Canadian prepper from the Joe Rogan show where a fireman said that if the fire and the wind were in the wrong place there would be nothing that they could do. So it isn't like their was no warnings. Ominously it seems that some looting has started.

Last estimate I saw was 150 billion. You are going to get madder, I can tell.

So a couple thoughts on this.

First of all, if an area is deemed uninsurable (for whatever reason, fire, landslide, flood, etc.), then there should be an automatic ordinance and prohibition against re-building in that area.

Second, burned out areas should be cordoned off and the use of deadly force authorized for anyone found inside restricted areas. Period. Access by permit only, and with cause. Otherwise, shoot on sight. I have no use for thieves.

I take 33% off the top of damage estimates. Actual losses only. Many estimates include all sorts of superfluous other stuff. Future value doesn't count.

So, for example, if you paid $500k for your property, the insured value is $500k, not $2.4 million just because you might have been able to sell it for that (or thought you might). A lot of the damage estimates in areas like this are way inflated because of this reason.
