after almost 250 years the Bald Eagle is getting it's due. one of if not the worst house and senate that has ever been elected, and definitely the worst president ever elected has signed it. and lo and behold there's no pork attached to it. that's a first.

i bet ol ben is rolling over in his grave chombing down on that turkey leg.

The omission came as a shock to the staff at the National Eagle Center, who thought the honor had already been bestowed on the bird that nests in the trees surrounding their headquarters. Minnesota has the second-largest nesting population of bald eagles in the country, trailing only Alaska.

“Preston Cook brought that up to us years ago, and it was like, ‘Oh, come on, you’re kidding me,’” said Scott Mehus, the education director at the National Eagle Center. “I’ve been talking in classes all of these years, telling [people] it’s our nation’s symbol and our national bird.”

“I’ve been wrong all these years and so has everybody else in the country,” Mehus said.

But not all of the Founding Fathers were fans of the eagle. Franklin famously wrote in a letter to his daughter that he wished the eagle had not been chosen as the representative for the United States, calling it “a bird of bad moral character” and adding, “He does not get his living honestly.”

Franklin went on to say in his letter that “the Turkey is in comparison a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original Native of America.”

But it's a myth that Franklin led discussions about making the turkey the national bird; historians believe he was joking. “He never advocated for the turkey to be our great seal,” Scott said, though he

I heard that on the radio earlier, genuinely surprised me that it wasn't officially stated in US law before.

I'm assuming Biden's done it so there's at least one legacy of his presidency that most people can agree with?

...either that or he's found some shady investment/money-washing idea, in bald eagle 'charitable' works or something!

edit on 25-12-2024 by AdultMaleHumanUK because: Added money-washing lol

Biden was a horrible president, but Bush and Obama did far more damage.

Gee, I was under the impression that the bald eagle was already our national bird.

Well, since it wasn't officially our national bird, lets just change it to a Canadian Honker. I guess I do assume some things sometimes.

I'm flying my National Bird right now in the general direction of the Department of Redundancy Department.

No, I won't be posting pictures, this is a family friendly site.

*sighs*

This adminsitration, just....the last four years...for pete's sake...I literally can't even anymore.

On the bright side, he can go home and rest soon, so that's nice.

I gotta give him credit for putting up with all the shennanigans over the past four years, it ain't easy bein' cheesy.

Tommorrow is another day.

When I was a kid a teacher in my school told us that in America you can be arrested just for having one Bald eagle feather, and one of the girls said thats a lie, because a "bald" eagle doesn't have feathers otherwise it would have a different name.
She was serious.
