Its a terrible thing but I think the response is getting way better. We’ve been doing more training (I’m a fireman in a big city) with the police to these type of incidents. Instead of waiting for PD to clear the scene which takes forever, we are creating squads with PD and going into the hot zone to provide emergency care with PD covering us.

Lessons learned from previous shootings where lives were lost unnecessarily due to the time of securing the scene.

The student/shooter is reportedly dead.
Also, reportedly no police shots were fired.

Another senseless Christmas season shooting....Lake Orion Michigan had a shooting a few years ago, also days before Christmas.

This is sad. And nothing will be done to stop the issue.

In your opinion, what is the issue ?

The problem is....it is not something that would easily be pigeon-holed as "the issue".
a) Poor parenting?
b) 2SSRIs?
c) Depression?
d) Poor coping skills?
e) some of the above
f) all of the above

This is why we have 2A. Not merely for tyrannical agencies but for pedestrians with a mental defect and a weapon. Add security qualifications to the hiring process, I'd rather have one controversial teacher/aide/guard/hall monitor on premises than two or more dead bodies especially if there's even a small chance one of those bodies is a kid.

The denial, by certain groups, to allow study of gun violence. So that we could treat gun violence as a public health issue. And then come up with some common sense ways to mitigate said violence. Right now we are reacting to mass shootings. Instead of coming up with ways to keep it from even happening.

They can barely afford to pay teachers now to teach or for supplies. How will schools pay for teachers to get training on firearms and actually afford said firearm? Why can't we just get offduty cops to sit on campus all day?

I do not deny there's a problem, I just don't think it's as simple as "It's the guns". Gun ownership has actually declined since the 80s and this is still happening. But the weird part is, we didn't have this problem when gun ownership was at it's highest.

This is not a gun issue, this is a mental health issue and it's always young people who don't have the skills to deal with society when they are told no. I also think it's a parenting issue. Parents are too lazy to monitor their kids behavior and let the internet raise them. Too many parents ignore the warning signs and that's what leads to horrors like this.

The medical profession is not innocent in this either. The Louisville shooter was known to be a danger to themselves and others, but that wasn't discovered till it was too late.

It's not just the guns. I believe it's a multifaceted issue. Part is definitely mental health. Part is access to the "guns".

If the majority of these teen mass shootings could be stopped by a gun safe. Well, that would be money well spent.

In this country we had issues with teens and drinking and driving. So what happened. They raised the age for liquor sales. This had the effect of lowering deaths.

In around 74% of incidents, the firearm used was obtained from the student's home or from that of a friend or relative. This counts as a too lazy to monitor kids behavior situation. It should be a no brainer that a law should be passed that mandates that, if you have kids, you have to lock up your gun. Why is this so hard to get passed?
